A highlight of the day is a very loud return of al-Qaeda to the Yemeni battlefield. AQAP was supposed to attack Aden government loyalists in Shabwa province in several locations, AQAP came in force today. Silent support of ongoing Houthi offensive. To watch. #Yemen

Keep in mind that while broader AI development involves all kinds of milieus, skills and approaches in the rest of the US, Europe, China, India and so on, Amodei and Altman are a product of an intellectually narrow and overspecialised clique concentrated around the Bay area

The UK has now concluded that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was almost certainly behind the threat to Fairford airbase. Iran’s campaign of intimidation and chaos extends well beyond the Middle East. I join my counterparts in condemning Iran’s hostile activities.

The far right in Europe and the US very much depends on people seeing the superiority of our civilisation over the formerly colonialised peoples as permanent rather than a product of particular factors. Its anti-educational and anti-science attitudes are also likely to hasten our relative decline.

This is a truly evil Administration

Jorge Liboreiro@jorgeliboreiro.bsky.social

The Trump administration is preparing to sanction the ICC as a whole and cut it off from everyday financial transactions, insurance providers and IT services and products, which would leave the court unable to operate, Reuters reports.

The horrible bastards in Moygashel have unveiled this year's racist bonfire topper. The Arabic text at the top translates as "Islamic Fascism", which is ironic. For context the Muslim population in NI is estimated to be 12,000 (according to Belfast Islamic Centre) - c. 1/200 or just 0.6%.

UPDATE: FLA claims to have repelled the Russian military convoy from Gao, in statement saying it has suffered major losess before withdrawing. If true, then JNIM and FLA will be aiming to massacre the Russians holed up in Anefis. Next hours key for Mali's future.

Two battles are ongoing, both of incredible but underestimated importance - first, with the FLA/JNIM coalition pushing to annihilate and finish off the Russian military camp in Anefis, the second, with a Gao convoy fhat has reportedly already lost several vehicles...

Every time you think the UAE can't fall lower, it does. It's kind of echoing the deployment of US troops to Saudi Arabia being the ideological foundation for the formation of Al Qaeda

Israel’s definition of victory is framed by a distorted reality shaped by a leadership promising that threats can and must be eliminated through invasion and occupation, and by a media that rarely provides insight into the human costs of their actions. www.crisisgroup.org/opd/middle-e...

The testimony here about sexual violence by Israel against Palestinian prisoners is so beyond the pale everyone must see it. It is so bad I can’t in good conscience share a quote other than the headline, which somehow manages to understate the horror within. www.middleeasteye.net/news/i-wishe...

But they are the new norm, because the world failed to act when Israel blew up hospital after hospital in Gaza. And of course they were aided by our gutless mainstream media that hemmed and hawed and hedged until it was barely even news for babies incubators to be blown to smithereens.

Reminiscing about my time living in DC. If you've lived in DC or spent time there, especially in the Cap Hill area, let's look at some of the places you could be killed for being in range of the blast radius of a Mk 84 2000lb bomb dropped by the USAF or Israeli Air Force on a legitimate target

Travis@someforeignfield.bsky.social

A nasty habit I've developed is figuring out whether I'm within the blast range of a 2000lb bomb dropped on a "legitimate target" based on places the Israeli-American alliance has bombed during these wars. Very rarely am I out of range of these theoretical bombs.

The fact European allies have restricted what the US could use their bases for—protecting allies in the Gulf, not striking Iran—has also infuriated Trump & could reinforce his belief that the US has to “own stuff” (in this case, Greenland) if it really wants to protect itself 2/2

Agnostic Pessimist reposted

EU officials rightly worry that the Greenland risk may actually increase after Trump’s failure in Iran, as Greenland would, militarily if not politically, be an easier win and show of force for a president seeking to recover damaged credibility 1/2

Thinking about when I was a refugee caseworker and nice liberal folks would call us asking if they could host a Ukrainian family. When told there weren't any available for rent, but they could host a Congolese or Afghan family instead, we never heard from them again. This happened a lot! Like, A LOT

Brilliant piece: “America does not know how to exist in a world it does not control. Since its inception, America has assured itself it was simply too big, too far away and too richly endowed to suffer any serious consequences for its actions. But there will be no escaping the cataclysm in Iran.”

NATO is being undermined by its biggest military power, the US, which literally threatened to invade another member. Turkey, its 2nd biggest, is threatened by politicians from Israel, the country allied to most NATO countries. You don’t need Putin when you got Trump and Netanyahu.

Kate from Kharkiv@kateinkharkiv.bsky.social

BLINKEN: The idea that Finland and Sweden are members of NATO is extraordinary. It was never in anyone's imagination for decades. What Putin has done in Ukraine is to precipitate the very things he claimed he was trying to prevent, including a stronger NATO closer to Russia.

Today Israel has made it legal to hang Palestinians who are found Guilty in Israel and who have a 99.74% conviction rate in their courts For Israelis who have a 1.9% conviction rate for crimes against Palestinians the death penalty is still illegal This is yet another War Crime

"Without moral strength, we have no right to exist" is quite the soundbite from a bunch of ex-MOSSAD/Shin Bet heads. Not sure about the historical prevalence of the aforementioned moral strength though.
