Emoluments Clause is in the Constitution too and it turns out "being in the constitution" doesn't really count for much if you control the courts. A lesson, perhaps! bsky.app/profile/cjth...
Corollary to this is we need to get rid of the pardon It's in the constitution, so it won't be quick, but we gotta get that ball rolling

the other thing is that conservatives resolutely do not see the purpose of education as providing social mobility but as reifying and deepening existing inequalities of status. they are as hostile to low income students getting admission to elite institutions as they are black ones.

Turns out the friction of having to learn photoshop was a crucial firewall protecting society from the terrible taste of small business owners
When I first heard about AI being used for menus and advertisements, my concern was largely that it would be used to idealize the food and make it look better than it actually was. At no point did I imagine that restaurants would willingly put out horrific looking images of their food on purpose

I think people should listen to what the administration trying to bring back spectacle lynchings, race riots, and middle passage-esque deportation voyages are trying to tell you about themselves. bsky.app/profile/bren...
The news just since I left work: -A planned livestream of an execution by firing squad -Trump basically trying to incite a pogrom against Somalis Nothing mysterious or complicated about what's happening.

A hallmark of democratic backsliding is government leaders stealing from taxpayers and using public funds to try to get themselves electoral advantages. Backsliding countries keep the form of elections, but corrupt leaders render them no longer free and fair by putting a state thumb on the scale.
The amount of money the administration is promising in order to buy votes is significantly less than the amount of money it is taking away in programs and services. And it's OUR money!

I remember the vibe shift when people would remark about how nice Burning Man in SF was because of all the people who weren’t around in SF during Burning Man. This video got a lot of laughs cause it resonated:
"Once a dadaist experiment, an attempt to create a 'temporary autonomous-zone' in the desert, Burning Man is now a marker of class status for tech bros and 'creative professionals' around the globe, a kind of west coast Wimbledon for the weird." www.theguardian.com/culture/2026...
I can see guys like this psyched that they can use ChatGPT to finally build their political “theory of everything” that models vibe shifts using opinion polls, relative chart positions of different musical genres, and virality of video essays angry about female protagonists in action movies

Excellent video essay that gets at the heart of the psychology and sociology of it all and ties Joe Rogan’s interests in and platforming of occultism and neo-Nazi Esoterism to the Doomsday project youtu.be/ewvRS3NwIlQ?...

Where this particular strain of it all began in the aftermath of 9/11 used to drum up a long-desired invasion of Iraq (and eventually Iran - just took a while to get enough people completely divorced from all practical considerations to go along with it) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality...

It's being treated as a policy victory that we have less of the world's smart young people coming to learn from us, participate in our society and economy. This is just so depressing to me, it feels like a complete victory for know-nothing ignorant bigotry over enlightened sensibilities.
