I’ve talked a lot about the way that leaning on “affordability” too hard might backfire on progressives, and here’s a real manifestation of it: voters insisting homeownership is unaffordable, and thus we must cut or eliminate property taxes. Meanwhile their home equity has risen 88% in six years.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

With Waymo coming to Toronto now is the moment to talk congestion pricing. With a digital service like this you can do it without any cameras and charge a nominal fee for people entering the downtown core at certain times of day.

In which I lay out why Minister Quinn's decision to suspend all private institutions from OSAP is a desperate effort to distract attention from the fact that it is now clear that he lied about the reasons for the February OSAP cuts (and he knew he was lying). Those cuts need to be reversed. Now.

One thing we've tried to emphasize at @moreneighboursto.bsky.social is Toronto is doing *neither* well. We aren't allowing enough private housing and we are making our affordable housing slow and expensive through our own processes (Housing Now still has produced 0 units in 7 years).

New literature review on housing ladder spillovers: When rich tech workers move in, low-end rents go up. So does it follow that adding high-end homes would reduce them? Yes. Changes at the top of the ladder can propagate down and affect prices at the bottom. 1/

Mangroves, vital for protecting coastlines and storing carbon, are making an unexpected comeback due to increased legal protections and public awareness of their importance. Since 2010, the rate of mangrove loss has slowed down, with more forests being restored than destroyed.

I think it's already abundantly clear that no ordinary person needs to receive granular news updates on a minute-by-minute basis. Reading the news once a day is plenty. It is, in fact, much more news than most people have received at most points in human history.
