Sorry for not posting here for a while. Here's a customisable World Cup schedule spreadsheet. It can show the kick-off times in your own time zone, and you select which country's fixtures you want to be highlighted. You can create a copy here: t.co/uh3ouORlHk

Look, all I'm saying is that if you just spent the last six years being frustrated with Durbin and you think there's a chance he's about to be replaced with a guy who thanks ICE for their service and takes AIPAC and crypto money, you should treat it like a very serious emergency

Couldn’t agree more. When I was a senate page in ‘02, there was a vote on ed funding. Kerry voted no. Blanche Lincoln wanted to vote no but wasn’t sure until she found out he had done it too. She went up to him to tell him and thank him, and he said,

I will say: I saw kerry campaign for obama in 08 and he was awesome. charisma through the roof. and he made his name giving compelling testimony to congress. maybe the problem was some campaigns and consultants smooth off all the rough edges when those edges are what make the candidate interesting

“it’s the same old bullshit. Cutting the arts, cutting music.” And he said it with an inspiring passion that made me, a young idealist, really like the guy. But in ‘04 it felt like that guy was hidden

This would make sense if the governor of a state were a subordinate officer in the president’s chain of command, but they’re not. They’re a separate sovereign. Do governors have ANY duty to the president or the federal government?

Joshua J. Friedman@joshuajfriedman.com

The court concludes that the statute's requirement that "orders ... shall be issued through the governors of the States" doesn't mean that a governor must consent or even be consulted before their state's National Guard is federalized.

This cries out for critical analysis. It's like an inversion of American cultural hegemony. We conquered the world with McDonald's, and now the world is turning that weapon back on us.

As part of the red-carpet treatment, Saudi officials arranged for a fully operational mobile McDonald’s unit to accompany President Trump during his stay. According to local reports, the unit was set up near the Saudi Royal Court.

Trump says movies produced outside the U.S. are a national security threat. So he’s imposing a 100% tariff on all movies that are “produced in foreign lands.”

Moses' national security job offer was rescinded when Elon Musk’s DOGE team came in and haphazardly cut positions. What's The Real Cost of Donald Trump and Elon Musk's cuts? Families losing their livelihoods. #TheRealCost

I used to have great affection for Senator Durbin, and it is very sad to me that I saw this news and thought, "Good riddance." He came and spoke when I was in middle school; the older brother of a classmate of mine was a super-volunteer on his first(?) Senate campaign, and I'm sure the prospect (1/

because they've got the hot young prospect. I loved that metaphor. But then the last few years, whether it's his own instincts or terminal Senate-brain, he just hasn't been up for the fight, or he has been unwilling to fight in the ways that are needed. Blue slips were a big one, but the last

couple months have just been so disappointing, to the point of angering. So I'm glad he's leaving. I have enough affection for him that I'm happy he gets to leave on his own terms. And it's time.

at every stop to try to figure if it was the right one, running back on just in time, until finally he saw someone holding a chauffeur sign and thought it was probably for him but the guy didn't believe it cuz Durbin was in jeans and a t-shirt. Or how he ran for office 4(?) times before he won.

And on the politics, I didn't have much to disagree with him on. He came out of the gate early in support of Obama for pres, a train I was already on. I remember him telling "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" that he felt like the aging veteran baseball player whose team is finally seeing its fortunes turn

"Yes." "Great, come on." A little stunned, I looked up from my textbook; my classmates told me to go and they'd cover for me. I folded up my things and shoved them under my chair and followed the Senator to the Senate restaurant. I was so excited. There was one problem: I had already eaten lunch (5/

and I didn't want to be rude. So I ordered a turkey club and I ate every last bite and the chips, too, and I was so full and uncomfortable. And also I was delighted. Sen Durbin regaled me with hilarious stories of traveling abroad and not knowing what train stop to get off at, running off the train

highlight was Sen. Durbin taking me to lunch. My dad had run into him in Chicago while I was in DC, and the Sen asked dad how I was liking it. My dad, thinking quickly, said I was enjoying it but what would put it over the top is if he took me to lunch. Dad called and told me about it, and then (3/

I forgot about it until a few days later, I'm doing my homework in the Senate lobby, and Durbin comes power-walking through. He walks past me, stops, turns around, and comes up to me, "Do you have time for lunch?" I thought he meant generally, in the course of a day, were we given time for lunch. (4

of talking to the children of wealthy families didn't hurt. I liked him immediately even at that age. Then he selected me to be a Senate Page when I was in high school, which was an honor and ended up being, for all its flaws, a lifetime-highlight experience. And one of the highlights of the (2/

I don’t understand why Marmoush’s pass doesn’t counted as an fpl assist but if he’d had a shot blocked and then Silva kicked in the rebound it would. Neither is exactly intended, but both are related to the intent and lead directly to the goal via a touch by a third party

Elon Musk is obtaining Americans’ personal data, redirecting billions of dollars that Congress already allocated, and firing hardworking public servants. If DOGE doesn’t comply with FOIA, it will be much harder—if not IMPOSSIBLE—to expose the full story.

One more thing: Punchbowl reports that some Democratic senators are considering allowing the CR to proceed to a floor vote, lowering the threshold from 60 to 51 votes. Any such vote is the same as a vote for the CR but with even less integrity. Please encourage your colleagues to be better than this
