New: AI data centers’ indirect water use - water consumed by power plants to generate electricity for power-hungry server farms - is magnitudes larger than the facilities’ onsite water consumption and is largely undisclosed. Free link. With @mchediak.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

When younger I looked forward to and embraced winter and related sports. Now it’s more about winter’s relief from the incessant noise/small dick energy pouring out of the exhaust pipes of motorbike psychopaths.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force. Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon. Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.

Disappointed to see the Alberta gambling ads now on the Jay’s telecasts. Historically, some years, Alberta has made more revenue from gambling and liquor than energy, which, you know, is very much on brand.

Meta’s AI data-center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been caught infecting the town’s water supply with deadly bacteria. Officials say wastewater from Meta’s AI data-center flooded the town’s pipes with the bacterium Cupriavidus gilardii, and they found the company violated industrial waste regulations.

After having their funding eliminated by the UCP, the advisory group “The Alberta Water Council” is no more. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Alberta’s Premier is awful and corrupt.

Danielle Smith confirms Corb Lund's Water Not Coal petition WILL NOT be on the October 19th ballot. She says Elections Alberta said all questions had to be in by June 1st. Now, it will go through the process but the earliest it could come to a referendum in October 2027.

Dale Smith on the UCP: '[as] Gerson points out—these people think that they’re strategic geniuses for engineering conservative victories in Alberta.'...'None of this is going to end well, in part because these are deeply stupid and unserious people, and the country is going to suffer as a result.'

Exhausting horseshit from Smith.

David Cochrane: Are you leading a separatist party? Danielle Smith: No, I'm leading a party that believes that we need to have Albertan sovereignty within a United Canada. (But also... Justin Trudeau ...)

Danielle Smith launched a "Alberta Open For Business" campaign designed to double Alberta's population by 2030. And now she's blaming immigrants and Ottawa for our failing underfunded education and health systems - and her major budget deficit.
