Weird. I studied history to A level. I wish Iโ€™d done it at University. I read a lot of history. I am addicted to โ€˜The Rest is Historyโ€™. I really had no idea that one of my main interests/hobbies had โ€˜been retrofitted to justify mass immigration.โ€™ Honestly, I feel like such a thickie.

When I first started out as a journalist I thought it paid to have a background in US history when covering America. Then I thought it would probably be better to be a constitutional lawyer with expertise in jurisprudence. Now I think it would be useful to be a psychiatrist.

GB Newsโ€™s Trump interview was a hot mess, but Ofcom doesnโ€™t want to investigate. That means one thing: Ofcom is BROKEN. I just signed this open letter calling on the Government to do whatever it takes to fix it. Will you add your name? act.38degrees.org.uk/act/Ofcom-is...

Sadiq Khan is absolutely right. The Labour leadership has taken the progressive vote for granted in its pursuit of the Red Wall. Gorton and Denton marks a turning point. Starmer must make a choice as to what and who he really wants. Our patience has run out. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I am extremely confused as to why the UK government and police are saying Grokโ€™s mass-scale CSAM generation is an issue for Ofcom. This isnโ€™t about X failing to moderate CSAM, which is an Online Safety Act issue. It is about the company and its technology being actively involved in its generation.

This is grotesque. Before trial they are accused. They are not yet criminals. Taking away jury trials because they are criminals is a presumption of guilt and it is profoundly wrong and unjust.

BBC cultural output eg history documentaries etc are still excellent - it is news output that has declined as a result of the Brexit nonsense and BBC journalistic support and promotion of Farage - still evident today with their asking him to comment on Trumpโ€™s outrageous interference in BBC output

It's a curious argument for a Reform MP. On the one hand, we are overwhelmed with non-white immigrants. On the other hand, they form only 4% of the population. Which is it?

The truth is people have voted for the 'less bad' Party for decades, look where that has got us. People want to vote for a Good Party again.

You do know that, since Trump, "People say..." now means "I'm making an assertion on the basis of zero evidence?" Though I'm sure that's not the case here ๐Ÿซค

These Supreme Court oral arguments on conversion therapy are going to be painful. No matter what is said, know that trying to force someone to be what they're not is psychological torture with measurable negative consequences, and anyone trying to defend such efforts is a bigoted monster.

Not enough people know that you don't hear about the holes in the ozone layer anymore because an international agreement banning production of chlorofluorocarbons was wildly successful and the ozone has recovered since. Change is possible. None of this is inevitable. We can choose differently.

The Greens are moving into the centre ground vacated by Labour. That's why Labour are so scared.

This, despite ministers having access to the full range of statistical data, plus teams of civil servants trained to interpret said data and to ensure their minister is fully briefed before any public appearance.

Steve Nowottny@stevenowottny.bsky.social

This week @fullfact.org has heard *three* claims from ministers about immigration which appear to be incorrect. The stats in this area are complicated, and fiddly, and easy to confuse. But clearly itโ€™s crucial theyโ€™re discussed accurately. So what have ministers got wrong? A ๐Ÿงต (1/5)

People are appallingly ignorant about immigration. They don't understand basic things about "net immigration statistics" and have a completely warped sense of what is going on. It is up to the government and the media to educate, but both are too busy batting their eyes at Nigel Farage's voters.

The reason that Wes Streeting has done this review into PAs is because of overwhelming pressure from doctors who want their patients to be safe. Lots of them are resident doctors. Doctors are the ones caring for patients. We must support them.

This!! UK Labour COULD be changing the iniquitous, obsolescent, undemocratic system - but they don't, because it leaves them with convenient scapegoats for their own failures.

MCRobson@zaploosh.bsky.social

I wonโ€™t vote for any party with whom I disagree. I will only vote for parties that reflect my values. If Farage is gaining ground then the blame is not mine. The blame can be laid at the feet of outdated mainstream parties and their comfortable position within a reactionary establishment.

Looks like we will be treated to the shoddy spectacle next week of rebellious Labour MPs being bought off, and voting in favour of hurting vulnerable people and people with disabilities because only new claimants will be hurt. That's still not ok. How can you have a 2-tier regime for disability?!

Labour: 1. Pursued a callous original policy 2. Downplayed the massive public backlack 3. Tried to claim there's a moral case for welfare cuts 4. Held firm in the face of rising political rebellion 5. U-turned partially, opting for a cynical new plan that will create a 2-tier support system
