Establishment Dems keep moving to the right, the whole country sees a move of the center..... It's bad.

The same guy who endorsed tafoya in the strib today wrote that "70 percent of the teams in the NBA could fold tomorrow and nobody would notice a difference with the possible exception of increase in street crime." He's considered a moderate.

For the past 14 months, Bryan Vance has tracked the prices of 20 common grocery staples, aggregating them into a newsletter called Stumptown Savings. Spurred by rising costs and his own layoff, the Google sheet where he tracks items is now 5,500 lines long. Every month he adds 400 points of data.

Happy Monday, everybody! This week, have you considered voting early (if you can) and voting in person (if you can)? It's fun! Try it if you can!

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

A truly evil group. We have to ignore these. If that takes completely changing SCOTUS, fine by me.

Call me selfish, but I don’t want data centers stealing Oregon’s precious water

Oregon’s 2026 wildfire season burned a record amount of land and cost more to fight than any season before it, even as the state saw fewer fires than usual. More than 2.1 million acres burned across the state this year, surpassing the previous record set in 2024.

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

Another fun night of dungeons and Dragons. We're running eberron modules from way back in the day. They seem to be having fun, but I can never tell if it's just because we like each other, or more? Anyway, I had a good night.

Agreed. It's a terrible thing. It also says to kids we didn't trust them to be good without a threat. It's an awful , awful, awful, thing.

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

Remember: If your vote didn't matter, billionaires wouldn't be spending their fortunes trying to buy our elections. Stay calm, support good candidates, do whatever you can to get out the vote, and vote as soon as you can. Don't let Big Money win.

I interviewed investigative journalist @michaelblanding.bsky.social for Truthout about his new book, The Gospel According to Hobby Lobby—a fascinating account of the billionaire couple behind the craft-store empire and their role in funding white Christian nationalism.

In a minor miracle....I actually wrote a bit. No more than a page, a small page, and it wasn't fiction or poetry, but still, I did write a bit today.

32 people have been killed in school shootings in the US this year. The only death related to the French protests is someone had a heart attack while protesting. You are safer in a French riot than an American school. French people don't need to sit down, Americans need to stand up.

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

Anyway, while I wasn't thrilled with the march we went to today, we did stop at a brewery while taking the long walk home. We spent an hour talking to a lonely older woman, and I felt we made a difference in her life.
