The allegations against Donald Trump for sexual assault seem to have a common denominator: He is physically violent and intentionally inflicts pain on his victims. He likes to slam women and girls up against doors and walls as he roughly manhandles them. Donald Trump is a sick and twisted person.

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

It's only socialism when you tax the wealthy & use it to fund services for the poor & middle class. Otherwise, it's just sparkling kleptocracy! Related: Family farmers have made more take-home income than non-farmers every single year since 1997. Yes, that's AFTER farm debts & expenses.

As his policies bankrupt them, Trump-supporting farmers fully embrace socialism. But only if it’s for them.

I feel like it should be a much bigger story that in early 2025 the MAGA regime requested a cybersecurity agency to secretly acquire a voting machine and hack it and directed them to not alert the voting machine company if it uncovered flaws. That’s called setting up for rigging an election.

I don’t understand why farmers need an endless series of welfare payments from the rest of us since Trump took office. Aren’t his policies working for you? You need us to pay you so you will keep voting for the guy who is failing you? Don’t you believe in free market capitalism?

(1/X) Nothing good and nothing satisfying will come out of the Trump era. He will leave the country in much worse shape than he found it. The GOP will pay a price for this politically but not not one that is commensurate with the damage he caused...

Sir Ian McKellen orates 'The Stranger's Case' from 'Sir Thomas More' by Shakespeare about the Evil May Day xenophobic riot of 1517 in London. This passage was written 400 years ago, but times never change. Humanity refuses to change its unwarranted bias against 'others'.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Fun fact: the U.S. House can sue a sitting president with a simple majority vote. If the Democrats retake the chamber, they should do more than just "investigate" Trump's corruption. They should sue him in federal court for the illegal ballroom, Qatari jet, and more.

Seems to me that the entire debate can be boiled down to what Stancil says here. Two things can be the same at the same time: A) Humans and LLMs will be _fundamentally different_ as long as their hardware is fundamentally different (e.g. continuous humans vs. discrete LLMs).

it's crazy that people can't recognize THIS is the position that requires a lot of unfounded confidence about how brains work. "they're just next-word predictors" okay and how do you know that we aren't?

So at the "Application" layer, the thinking of LLMs may indeed be very similar to that of humans -- simply running on different hardware. As I understand it, one of the huge surprises with Agentic AI is the incredible capability that training on human language and reasoning unlocked for the LLMs.

These things are less than 10 years old, and already what they're capable of is AMAZING. LLMs may not have a pineal gland, but the argument that they will never be able to think seems silly. Allowing LLMs thought does nothing to diminish the uniqueness and value of their evolved creators.

However, put a trillion neurons together, and even if they are highly organized (as in humans), lots of individual, unexpected, even chaotic behavior can result. We don't even need a trillion neurons -- anyone who has worked with animals (even invertebrates) knows that they all have personalities.

LLMs are now the same. We may understand how transistors and transformers work, but the models can exhibit emergent behaviors that are hard to predict or understand. Also, these models were trained on _human thinking_ as expressed through language.

and B) Just because humans and LLMs have different hardware doesn't mean that they both can't "think" under any reasonable definition of thinking. There's no secret sauce. Neurons obey deterministic chemistry and physics, in ways that we understand to a large extent.

@aoc.bsky.social just put out a great statement on AI. Refreshing to see a major politician on the left nail this. "Silicon Valley billionaires want us to believe that Al robots will destroy humanity. But the biggest threat to humanity are the tech oligarchs themselves." 🎯

The thing with thinking is that it's another fuzzy term for a cognitive thing about which we have no consensus. It's not clear what thinking is.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

People are like “LLMs can’t think, they can just resolve incredibly complex problems, sometimes beyond the reach of humans, often by progressing step by step through a multipart process” and I guess at some level I’m sort of curious if you’re defining “think” as “that thing humans do”
