John Brown did no wrong. The Boston Tea Party was political violence. Stonewall was a riot. Protect the dolls.

In case I somehow reach anyone with views that a civil war in the US would be acceptable or winnable, it is neither. Even if you think you are on the other side you need to understand this. People are still being murdered from the fallout of The Troubles.

Brian@someonenamedbrian.bsky.social

The Troubles were a civil war and exactly what we'd get with a population 220 times larger.

Not-as-hot-a-take as it seems: Presidents shouldn’t salute. They’re civilians. I blame Reagan.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump forgets to salute while exiting Marine One then lumbers across the tarmac to his Qatari bribe jet. Natalie Harp is the first one up the stairs to join him on the plane.

Funny, I saw Canadians fighting. I treated a few that were wounded. I never saw or heard of that guy doing any fighting. I wore an ISAF patch and I've only heard that joke twice and both times from the same guy.

Fuck this guy to eternity

Slavery is violence that in its daily function is worse than anything John Brown ever did in opposition to slavery

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

Weird, almost like they exist for power and not public safety or laws

Despite Illinois’ sanctuary laws, local police in and around Chicago helped ICE investigative agents track activists engaged in First Amendment–protected activities.

What he's doing here is claiming that sexuality is learned. It's a trash position.

Tucker Carlson: "If you look at pornography enough or bestiality videos all day, after a while... it's kind of an attractive horse, I get it."

So I'm just going to start calling LLMs and AIs (which are bad names) SI going forward. It is probably a worse name but it is an official name. This is going to be a fun week

I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.

I've detained people in combat. I've treated and saved the lives of wounded enemy. It completely escapes me why having 6 people physically restraining a person is reasonable or effective. It makes no sense.

One of my former students just witnessed this on Orange Line in the DC Metro - ICE/HSI abducting someone from the platform of Stadium-Armory. She was scared. She didn’t know what to do. She shouted “ICE is here!” to warn others. I’m proud she did that. And she bore witness.

Mmmm. There was a martial tradition in the Union states, too. *plenty* of Union soldiers who were vv good were pretty enthused about soldiering for its own sake. We have this cultural memory of Southern cavaliers, but a lot of that is Lost Cause-ist. Union heroes have mostly been forgotten about.

Trump: My Administration will, immediately, begin sending 'Checks' of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premium ... This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless 'Slush Fund' that has only been used by Dumocrats ... "

LinkedIn is definitely a thing I need to use, as a sell out who trades my labor for scraps of paper I can only go on there for like 15 minutes before seeing Bill Gates or someone else from the list and bailing completely for several days

VMAs are coming up which caused me to look at some back catalogue videos and then I stumbled across the knowledge that Gaga's Alejandro is from 16 years ago.

They'll have to update all their cameras to remove this. So what you shouldn't do is use this while they are doing that.

HaJ3FgupAm8RrDJW3MHgT9X7Ft27eVaD What is that? That's a hard-coded API token that Flock cameras use to identify themselves and get OAuth credentials, which can then be used to talk to Flock's production servers. Like, anyone on the internet can probably do this right now.

Macklemore made the minimum level of statement. On the level of, "hey maybe stop murdering children." Not accepting that is endorsing genocide.

Look if it were official GOP policy to round Jews into camps and some Dem candidates were like "what if we just make them wear yellow armbands?" I'm gonna be honest I would have a lot of trouble voting for any of those Democrats. Not making an argument about strategy here, just stating how it is.

Huh, been to a few more than I thought

Using Greg's definitions - not that many lived-ins, considering my wife's career. But, damn - that's a ton of northern states I've somehow managed to miss. (Hitting Portland in October for a conference, though, so I should at least complete the left coast. whereidlive.com/s/dd9qeskg

If you pull a gun on someone to order them to do something, they don't do it, and you put the gun away you are admitting you shouldn't have pulled it in the first place

Aaron Fritschner@fritschner.bsky.social

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.

He goes on to say that it is more complicated than this but it isn't a lot more complicated than this

Deflation means that "you money is worth more tomorrow than today", such that everyone says "Wow, I should save some money" and then the economy collapses.

This is wrong. Air Travel has never been safer. Fuel prices have gone up. I mostly fly European airlines which are prohibited by regulation from being late so maybe that's the issue
