This... makes me so sad. 😔 I loved my college experience. I loved LEARNING. I still do. Going through all my boxes of books and papers to downsize this past few weeks, I've realized that I learned something valuable even from the (very few) classes that I didn't enjoy. But here we are. 🥺

Don't let your past define you. Let your future deeds define you, and make sure they include moss draped antlers, a creepy unblinking gaze, and legends of how an ancient horror terrified townsfolk away from the ragged edge of the forest.

In times of strife, it's good to remember that you're not alone. There are many moss goblins, twig witches, and other shadowy creatures of the forest out here shambling along as best we can. Take comfort in that.

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

Wonderful game! Everyone should buy it! 💕📚

Learning in school is not enough. You must continue to teach yourself throughout your life. Study history, read myths, memorize poems, get acquainted with the greatest philosophers & writers. In an age when tech is cooking many brains, we need an army of autodidacts.

Remember, you are not alone. Your community is out there. Find them in quiet bookstores & noisy cafes. Find them shambling in mossy forests. Find them haunting crumbling castles on the coast, under the dim light of stars.

Should I be a kind person? Should I help my community? Should I learn dark magic from dusty books in secret libraries? Should I wear a tiara of ancient goblin bones and a raven on my shoulder to the market to buy cheese and wine? The answer is always yes.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Over the past decade, one of the major focuses of this blog has been the depiction of labour unions and the struggle for workers’ rights in science fiction and fantasy. Let's share some articles about the subject, and talk about some works of SFF that tackle workers' rights well. 1/X

In libraries, we call this vocational awe. The idea that if you are invested in your calling, you should accept low wages/inhumane conditions is a nasty little trick of capitalism. I’m an author, I’m hungry, I care deeply about my work, AND I deserve to be paid for it.

Everyone has one Mitch Hedberg joke stashed in their brain like a squirrel to sustain them whenever they need to feel joy for 30 seconds and mine is “they say the recipe for Sprite is Lemon and Lime but I tried to make it at home, there’s more to it than that”

This article sparked some delightful conversation today and I think it poses an interesting question that is pretty similar to what I said in my earlier post (but more elegantly!): We still haven't decided if Romantasy = romantic fantasy, fantasy romance, or both. And that is chaos. LOL
