The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

So basically someone told Trump today what Cheesecake Factory was, and it probably took a little while to explain to him that they aren’t local factories that make cheesecakes. But he probably still isn’t quite sure what they are.

CBS deleted this post and reposted it admitting that their original one was misleading. And the misleading post from CBS was intentionally misleading, not an innocent mistake. CBS continues to lose credibility.

In other countries, there’s a very strong relationship between public protests and voting. My exasperation is that it doesn’t seem to carry through here, especially among the young.

Lefty Retired Airline Pilot@leftyairlinepilot.bsky.social

So no connection between protests and voter behavior? Really? Seriously?

I did not intend to take anything away from the student protesters in Serbia - who were brave...and *organized.* But far more important is that the protests were accompanied by grassroots organizing and *voting in large numbers* Brazil, Hungary, Poland, Serbia... Voting, in a coalition. #Lessons

We could have solved many things if people created organizations and voted after getting outraged. If the left was as effective as the right, we’d be basically Switzerland by now

Endless excuses that are not really that good, tbh. I grew up in a time when people worked all day, too, and amazingly, the olds voted back then, and the youngs did not. "My irregular school schedule!" is not a thing.

Memnon of Rhodes@johngage1.bsky.social

4/ - Young people are more likely to work hourly wages, juggle multiple jobs, or face irregular school and work schedules. Because the U.S. votes on a Tuesday and does not mandate paid time off to vote nationally, taking time off represents a direct financial loss.

I'm not sure if it's serendipity or a conscious casting choice, but the fact that the Progressive "turning into your parents" ads feature actors who have also appeared as dorks and losers on other shows really helps.
