"But who, other than climatologists, academics, and people who could read, predicted the chaos to be wrought by the collapse of global supply chains, Trump’s refusal to leave the White House and the AI singularity?" Somehow funny and terrifying in equal measure.

The arrogance of the man! The only person from across the spectrum who doesn’t want Tony Blair to just fuck off is Tony Blair. Just because Tony Blair is stuck with Tony Blair, doesn’t mean the rest of us should be stuck with Tony Blair. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This is a very sensible and even-handed take, even if it hurts to think my kids might not enjoy Hitchhiker's as much as I would want them to.

Elsewhere on Bluesky folks are noting that The Kids These Days aren't much into Douglas Adams. As someone who is much into Douglas Adams (and in fact wrote an intro to new edition of his works) allow me to remind folks that it's not actually surprising when The Kids aren't into decades-old stuff.

Someone put the fly brain inside an FPV drone bsky.app/profile/ewin...

Erica Windisch@ewindisch.ontological.observer

I wrote a HITL/SITL simulator that embeds betaflight, hdzero, and edgetx. edgetx -> betaflight -> fly brain <- vision: gaussian splats -> hdzero This lets the fly see and pilot within a simulation driven and a human pilot can optionally operate the fly in-the-loop via a trainer radio.

Despite this being characterised by some as a "Spontaneous Protest" it was clearly not. If you are concerned by, and want to do something about, the increasingly organised right-wing extremism in our country, Hope not hate is a very good place to start.

HOPE not hate@hopenothate.org.uk

This morning at 7:30am, a group of men dressed in black and their faces covered, gathered in Dover. The men, members of the anti-migrant vigilante group Patriot Platform, proceeded to block the port of Dover and several roads nearby. Our briefing: hopenothate.org.uk/2026/09/05/p...

Focusing on the media coverage seems like the sort of simplistic narrative that you often see in, well, in sections of the media. Surely any investigation should at the very least encompass Cambridge and the most prominent voices who pursued this on social media too? This didn’t happen in vacuum.

A cross-party group of over 50 MPs and peers has asked IPSO to investigate media coverage of Jason Arday The letter, organised by Labour MP Afzal Khan, says coverage "reached far beyond what can reasonably be perceived as conducive to the public interest in relation to his alleged plagiarism"

"...Liverpool fans [...] are viewing the potential high-profile investment cautiously." That's an unusual way of saying we want him to keep his filthy hands off our club and fuck off permanently to space like all these pricks keep promising. #liverpool #lfc #bezos #bezoff

This is a dreadful development in our politics, which is bound to see dodgy & illegal lobbying now go unnoticed. And I say this as someone who, 20 years ago, was included in the register of MPs’ staff interests, when I worked for an MP. I never begrudged my inclusion on the register.

I’ve been in favour of LVT for a while now. To my layman understanding it seems better thought out and more realistic than the magic bullets that wealth tax campaigners propose. Sobering how dependent it would be on proper, long term strategic planning though. Fascinating thread and report here

Dan Neidle@danneidle.bsky.social

Stamp duty and council tax are terrible taxes. Land value tax could replace both - and Andy Burnham has backed it for 16 years. Who wins? Who loses? What happens to house prices? LVT could drive growth. But it isn’t easy. Our model shows its promise - and its problems.

“Suddenly the RW press, that army of advocates for the right to offend, got terribly pompous. This degrades democracy, they say. Blatant lobbying, not for the sake of our country, but for the fossil fuel industry, in which almost all the ultrarich - including, in all likelihood, the proprietors of these newspapers - are heavily invested. An odd aspect of #remain was finding myself in agreement with Piers Morgan. On #bbclaurak today, Morgan makes the case for rejoin, then follows by saying the UK should rejoin "in a leading role, to reform the EU". He somehow combines being pro-EU with the delusional exceptionalism that got us here.

@bestforbritain.org are amazing. I’m in awe of their relentless efforts to treat our country’s self inflicted wounds.
