During the project’s first six months, 27 residents have completed substance use treatment at Anchorage’s new tiny home community, and beds have stayed consistently full.
here's what I am reading today and YES! Anchorage Press got its facts straight! anchoragepress.com/look-out-bel... Parachuting is lame. Several journalists in AK have decades of experiences, dozens of awards & impressive bylines. Knowledge & experience matter if you want to cover AK well.
On this day 144 years ago, the U.S. Navy bombed Angoon, a Lingít village. Navy representatives formally apologized to the village deadly shelling just two years ago. Angel Jack and several high school students in Angoon created short films to document and capture what it meant to the community.

If current trends continue, the state will be near the record early voting turnout of 2024. #akleg
A local filmmaker is debuting his passion project Girl, Yeti and a Spaceship next month. Anton Doiron, the mind behind the movie, sat down with some of the actors in the film to talk about how the project came together.

Do you remember your favorite teacher? Research shows that good teachers are important for a child's academic success, while high teacher turnover can hurt student achievement. In Alaska, maintaining a stable educator workforce has been a challenge for decades. 🧵 [1/2]
i’m going through an elder’s collection of old regalia designs & patterns—they used all kind of materials back then:
newspapers, mail, paper bags, cereal boxes, xray copies, etc.
someone tell these politicians to commission local artists to create original beading patterns for us on their mailers!
i stg the mail is useless unless it’s political mailers. i’ve been waiting on a few amazon orders for weeks now and this is what it looks like when im out of town for five days.
A raven contemplating the flakes as they nuke down on Fairbanks this morning. The snow has been mesmerizing all morning. Dreading the forecasted change to rain 🥺 gotta love it while it lasts!
Having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that I’m in a coffee shop in Anchorage, Alaska that’s been here at LEAST 45 years, and there’s no place to hang your coat in the bathroom.
For context, more than 50% of the year it is below freezing here.
A few photos taken during a fall hike into Granite Creek Basin in Juneau, Alaska. Icy trail but minimal brush made hiking easy. The last of the fall colors before snow blankets this area until spring.
My sister’s team apparently got waitlisted for the Fairbanks 5U bon spiel this morning.
I told her she was probably black listed since they won last year
Something being missed in the AK election discourse is how significant local media is in the state. People listen to public radio, consume the newspapers & AK produced & staffed news sites, etc. This is a small population state & local media is very relevant.
Alaskans want to know what’s going on.
i am singing in an unstaged version of a brand new locally written opera this afternoon at the local arts & culture center.
sometimes small town life rocks for artists. it's SO hard for a young composer to get a reading of a full orchestral/choral work; here we're just DOING it.

What a gorgeous fall morning in Juneau. It's days like this that I wish I could teleport my friends in the Lower 48 to Alaska to enjoy the day. Forecast shows a week of sun... so rare this time of year.
We don't need outside direction.

Is anyone hearing about problems with early absentee voting or vote by mail in Alaska? I had a guy come into the gallery yesterday and say he had trouble with the system accepting his birthdate and he just decided to vote in person instead.
