thought about making an /r/its-so-over subreddit, but couldn't find my reddit login. it was easier to build a sub-reddit: its-so-over.exe.xyz

Sprites.dev by @fly.io is a very cool new thing: it solves two of my pet problems at once, developer sandbox environments for coding agents and a JSON API for executing untrusted code I wrote more here: simonwillison.net/2026/Jan/9/s...

I gave a talk last night about "Living dangerously with Claude", on the joys and perils of --dangerously-skip-permissions and how critical it is that we run coding agents in a sandbox so that we can unlock their full potential simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/22/...

We are knee-deep in studying the developer experience around containers, because if agents are going to be maximally useful, they need to be in a box. What we have discovered so far: sketch.dev/blog/in-prai...

Right now Lean is very much the classic "first learn mathematics then learn Lean", but this hints at some interesting future, where mechanical proofs are approachable enough (at least at the basic levels) that it can be a way to teach proofs: adam.math.hhu.de#/g/leanprove...

So much wisdom that Gen. McChrystal shares in our interview. Lessons he's learned the hard way. What character & patriotism means, being on the front lines as your enemy uses new technology, how that tech is going to impact all of us. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACGa... @cwclub.bsky.social

Two new books have been announced that, embarrassingly for the authors and publishers, fail spectacularly to understand what the term "vibe coding" means. The whole POINT of vibe coding is that you don't need to be a software engineer to do it. simonwillison.net/2025/May/1/n...

LLMs have use cases for skilled people. I know a Principal Engineer building internal convoluted tooling that produces actual results. Of course they're building it for us, for our tooling suite, on our datasets they're an expert in, for moonshot early attempts at figuring out what's happening.
So, thing I learned today that Claude is really good at. Log Parsing. Apparently you can just shove a ton of haproxy logs into it and ask "whats going on??" and it does a great job of diagnosing issues

put differently, you can count on AI to automate boilerplate and toil, but if you think AI is going to solve your hard problems, you’ll be disappointed AI coding done well forces you to think more, not less
I don't know who needs to hear this but you shouldn't vibe code changes to coredns in the production k8s cluster
