There's something very special to me about Price and Tierney sharing a screen. Dragonwyck, Laura, and Leave Her to Heaven are all great. This is a still from Laura, but Leave Her to Heaven is my fave. It's hard to believe such a story ever got made, and yes, Gene's finest hour among many fine hours

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I really liked this, the first E Strout I've read. She's a dynamite storyteller and I am becoming more drawn to nihilistic men of a certain age for some reason. The politics were a bit unsophisticated, but the last two or three pages were as moving as I've read for a while.

On Feb 1st 1975, Miles & band played 2 shows in Osaka, the afternoon show became Agharta, the evening show became Pangaea. Mellow psychedelic jazz funk, anyone? Mtume, Foster & Henderson lay down mad grooves, Pete Cosey brings the colour. Magnificent. 3/ Miles Davis - Pangaea #76From76

Once Upon a Time in Harlem is out in theatres, and it’s a great film that people should seek out but also, if you haven’t watched William Greaves’s Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One, you should do so immediately one of the best works of 20th century art

In 1989, when I had feet in the prog and indie camps, I saw a cassette of this in a £2.99 bargain bin. At that price, I had nothing to lose... A big smile of a record. Just what I needed. 2/ Electric Light Orchestra - A New World Record #76From76

And Fassbinder’s classic, screened by the festival in 2005 in a similar programme responding to racism in Belfast at that time.

To the guy behind me at the stoplight frantically waving his copy of Vineland for me to see in my rear view mirror, the sighting of which caused me to manically laugh and put me in a good-ass mood for the entire day: HELL YEAH BRO

A real grower this – 'Punch Card' the recently released debut album by Formal Sppeedwear. Wonderful basslines drive the alt-pop 80s sound. Bits of Talking Heads, Fripp-era Bowie guitars, New FADS – but very much their own unique thing. Looking forward to seeing them live next week ❤️

FB vinyl pages continue to amuse, this time it's the clutching of pearls over including comps in the 9 albums list. Comps open doors, & sometimes a good comp is all you need. These nine were massive for me. #ninealbums #compilations #MusicSky

THE EAR (Karel Kachyňa, 1970). Queasy, destabilising portrayal of fear, paranoia and semi-covert surveillance of a Czech government official and his wife, mostly set in their claustrophobic home, intercut with scenes from a lavish function that took place earlier in the evening. #FilmSky
