Anyway, if voters are going to maintain large public university systems, they should insist those systems be run by people who actually believe in their core public mission, rather than people who believe the entire thing is a system of taxpayer funded corporate welfare via job training.

The great thing about Meta's $18 billion settlement is that all the children harmed by its products will be using the money to rebuild their lives. Because that is who the money is going to, right? The children? This wasn't just the AGs using children as an excuse to fund state projects, right?

But I think the sooner we understand that this is not a 'growing pain' but rather an eternal struggle against a part of human nature that was adaptive millennia ago but is now a pure poison to society, the sooner we can get to the work of building fascism-resistant societies.

Also: if you've ever wondered why so many politicians & urban cosplayers who try to "appeal to rural areas" do it by dressing up in Wranglers and buying a Ford F-250? That IS, functionally, what a lot of "authentic rural culture" is at this point. Cosplay. So... are the cosplayers really wrong?

If at least one of our two parties realizes that "just fix it as best you can" is a better approach than making endless plans trying to reach perfection, we could get some stuff done on infrastructure.

We're done kicking the can down the road. Here's how we're fixing the city-owned section of the BQE.

That amounts to 500 TB per boob. Current largest available microSD cards can hold 2 TB. That's 250 microSD cards to fill the volume of one cup. I'm happy to conclude this is in the plausible territory with current technology, if a bit expensive.

The Nordic Model does not protect sex workers. This isn't a debate. The Nordic Model actively harms sex workers, and its supporters ignore this fact because a moral crusade to eliminate sex work is more important than sex worker lives.

This one just popped up on IG. Hadn’t seen it in a while, and it led me to look up whether Ari was on here. He is… and it looks like he hasn’t posted since right around the time this dropped. 🙃

Ok so this lady says solar panels are getting built on "the most productive farmland" in her area. Which just ain't true at all. It ain't true here in NC either. Where I ALSO hear that talking point over & over again. Smells like astroturf! So let's get the dirt on solar farms & dirt ✨

David Roberts@volts.wtf

I genuinely don't know what to do about this. In our diseased information environment, one MAGA-adjacent "influencer" can do more to shape public opinion than mountains of studies or facts. Where are the pro-clean-energy influencers to counter this shit?

The funny thing is, the chuds hate this version of the Odyssey because Nolan cast trans and non-white actors but if they actually were media literate, they'd hate this version of the Odyssey because it adopts their civilizational frame and then violently rejects *them* and their ideology.

The result was one of the largest-ever drops in literacy in a nation that was not at war
