which is all about his and others guilt or share of it, an uncomfortable truth, the end shows a part of the world this attitude made it, not to explain too much, a bit movie in a movie too, but very good in several reflections, a satyric movie oscillating from laugh to sadness

try to watch it, that it isn't a blockbuster movie is due to several circumstances, most beyond the scope of the makers and actors - decide yourself, it is not superficial and you will not exit with a top feeling, but this is adequate #climatecrisis

of course in such a Hollywood movie not all science is 100% correct in every regard (remember "The Day after Tomorrow"?), but it was well enough founded on science anyway, and the culmination was a speech by Digger (Rockwell, resembling Rockefeller and today Charles Koch) before Europeans

The US demonstrates better than anywhere else in the world that (a) cheap renewables won't always = fossil fuel decline and (b) deregulation is the same.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

Texas remains a very nice example of what happens with unregulated energy production: you get a nice lovely surge of renewables and and even bigger and extremely-not-lovely surge of fossil fuels. earthjustice.org/feature/data...

gonna stir some shit here: I think the spectre of "these projects are just held back by too many enviro laws" arose as it became clear that a huge drop in renewable energy costs was not going to translate into total and immediate global climate success; the big 'free market' theory of climate action

Dr. Genevieve Guenther (she/they)@doctorvive.bsky.social

This article is an important corrective to the claim that Federal environmental laws are holding back clean-energy development. Their empirical finding: "environmental reviews and permitting rarely delay or block utility-scale renewable energy projects." Link in next tweet.

💯 %. If experience is anything to go by, we are very good at dragging our feet when the solutions require challenging the status quo. So yes, coming back down from overshoot in the time horizon required seems unlikely. Overshoot or not, the focus should be reducing emissions as fast as possible.

Dr. Aaron Thierry@thierryaaron.bsky.social

"...we cannot be confident that temperature decline after #overshoot is achievable within the timescales expected today. Only rapid near-term emission reductions are effective in reducing climate risks."

I spend my days helping people develop resilience plans to try and avoid permanent loss. The level of complacency caused by climate impacts not materialising immediately is scary. This El Niño is going to be a case study of people being caught completely off guard by its delayed impacts.

For every 1°C of warming, the atmosphere holds 7% more water. 9°F is 5°C. If the air coming off the ocean equilibrates with the warmer surface water, that's 35% more water vapor. Atmospheric Rivers are rightfully called Fire Hoses of precipitation. But now increase the cross section of the hose 😱
