Awful. Just awful. A promising young man, a high school honors grad who joined JROTC and dreamed of becoming a doctor, killed himself because of the Trump admin’s obsession with hurting Haitians and the humiliating shame of an ICE ankle monitor. His blood is on their hands.

here is the thing. if you tell me that you believe that race is a biological category and that it is a guide to the objective superiority and inferiority of groups of people, i am not calling you a racist to *insult* you, i am calling you a racist because it best describes your beliefs.

Finally reading The Edge of Space-Time by @chanda.blacksky.app and it’s everything I’ve ever wanted from a book about physics. The breadth of references is stunning: from Einstein to Aime Cesaire to Mission Impossible to Star Trek. Fascinating, compelling read.

The point of putting it this way is to emphasize that the message "here is what the public thinks, so stop thinking differently" is always for the left; the right KNOWS that "public opinion" is a thing to work to change to fit what it wants.

Stephen reposted

The right has been investing in media for a long time, because they know you can use the media to shape public opinion; one of the way mass media does this is by telling the public what "public opinion" already is, to try to convince the public not to have a different opinion than "capitalism good"

1. "They tried to run us over" has been institutionalized as DHS's license to shoot people. They reflexively go to this lie when they draw their guns. 2. Even with a masked man is waving a gun in her face, this woman repeatedly tells them they are full of shit. Hero.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

This is absolutely WILD. Here's the dashboard video posted by @fritschner.bsky.social. Fast forward to about 1 minute. An ICE officer jumps out of a van and pulls a gun on this woman immediately before lying and claiming she "almost ran us over." *profanity warning if watching in public.

Bombshell new report out from my investigators this morning spanning our four year investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s financial records. This report shows exactly how Wall Street protected Epstein and enabled his sex trafficking for decades. Mega thread following with some key points:

why wasn't this reported at the time? for this classic reason:

Behind the scenes, the Epstein crisis was paralyzing the Trump team far more than the public knew. In public statements, Trump aides were full of bravado. In reality, it was consuming them. Again this should inspire wall-to-wall media coverage for months. The crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement is dead. Black people just lost all of their remaining political power in the South. This is a monumental moment in American history that simply isn't being treated as such.

Ari Berman@ariberman.bsky.social

Breaking: Tennessee Republicans pass new 9-0 gerrymander after SCOTUS destruction of Voting Rights Act eliminating state’s only majority-Black district & last Democratic seat. Splits Memphis, which is 63% Black, into 3 districts to disenfranchise Black voters. Quite literally a return to Jim Crow

The folks most invested in pushing it see this flattening out of novelty as a feature not a bug. It’s the same impulse that gives us a thousand sequels and super hero and live action versions of animated IP movies.

I've been saying: AI seeks patterns; creativity breaks patterns. As Ahmed Elgammal puts it: "Because they’re optimized to produce familiar outputs, they end up suppressing novelty. Losing the war that we started that never had any clear objective while repeatedly antagonizing our allies, who all refused to help us because the war was so stupid, and ending up in a worse position than we were before this needless war started. masterful gambit.
