Man I'm so glad they went back and disallowed that Egypt goal on the sketchiest basis possible so we don't have to sit through extra time, great job by FIFA, incredible system.

Obviously it’s immensely satisfying to see pictures of Ronaldo crying, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that he’ll still be crying off camera in the dressing room and possibly in his hotel room and maybe even on the flight home

Instead he held on and won reelection, spearheaded efforts to destroy Obama's Presidency, became the gravedigger of American democracy and now he's probably being kept alive as a vegetable in order to do some 11 dimensional chess about Thomas Massie running in a special election. It's funny, sort of

Trump: "Every time I see a crypto guy where they dropped an investigation, I said, 'You're lucky I'm president.'"

I just hope the Mexican fans who stayed up all night the day before the match to let off fireworks at the wrong hotel to try to disrupt England's sleep are having the worst day 🌞

On behalf of all USMNT supporters everywhere, special thanks to Donald Trump for wrapping the team in distraction and scandal before their biggest game ever. Really appreciate him getting his grubby tiny hands all over this.

Why should you support independent trans media? Perhaps because we take on the bias of major news organizations with facts and data. Here's the latest from @evanurquhart.bsky.social, who found NYT wrote 5 stories on the trans sports ban decision without quoting a single trans person. 🤯🤯🤯

There's a part in the book "Careless People" where the author beats Zuck at Settlers of Catan, and he is absolutely wrecked by it. Someone pulls her aside to explain everyone else has been letting him win for years. I think about this a lot re: why tech bros think everyone will love AI chatbots.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

People who spiral out overusing LLM chatbots are really just experiencing the kind of brain-damaging stream of unconditional validation that’s always been the norm for the hyper-wealthy, which explains a lot.

By his own admission, he had no idea what a red card was, but he knew -- better than the ref, better than FIFA -- that what Balogun did did not meet the standards for getting a red card, which, again, he had never heard of before. This is like watching JD lecture the pope, but more corrupt.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on Balogun: "That wasn't even an infraction...this referee, who is a little bit suspect if you check his past. He made a call nobody could believe...he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant...yes, I asked for a review by FIFA."

Really feel for Balogun, who didn't ask for any of this, and now must navigate the fallout of our racist, immigrant-hating mob boss of a president intervening on his behalf.

All of these can be true at the same time: 1) The suspension reversal was corrupt 2) No FIFA rules were violated (Art 27) 3) Art 27 is ridiculous 4) This is not nearly FIFA's most corrupt action 5) FIFA's history of corruption doesn't justify this corruption 6) The red card by VAR was BS

So glad we’re letting this clown squirm his way into football, like there weren’t enough dickheads about already.

arseblog@arseblog.com

I hate to inflict this man on you, but this is extraordinary in its ignorance of football and the rules of the game, and essentially says he called in a favour from 'Johnny' Infantino to get the suspension overturned. This is genuine disgrace. www.reddit.com/r/soccer/com...

FIFA is corrupt; Trump is corrupt; the Balogun call was bullshit; the suspension of the call was bullshit; the appeal of the suspension is bullshit. Wow this is like the perfect storm for a discourse. You have all sorts of possible stances to take. Have fun everyone.

Stanford fought the lawsuit, which I’m grateful for. Our legal team was incredible. But the university still shut Stanford Internet Observatory down bc they didn’t want to deal w/political pressure. It costs real time &💵 to fight vexatious bs for 3 yrs. But you have to fight—or else the liars win.

Putting this into a main text threaded post instead of only alt text and replies: Yes, it looks like Grant is surrendering to the proud, noble Lee. That’s the point. It’s a Redeemer/ Lost Cause / Dunning School painting from the 1920s. It’s Confederate agitprop. And now the White House is using it.
