Good news keep piling up today!

Cartoon Brew@cartoonbrew.bsky.social

China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

Guillermo Del Toro dropping another one liner that’s exactly how I feel about AI slop, the “punishment” is built in

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Entering day 5 of being sick, the cold has now left my chest and has taken over my sinuses. It even faked me out into thinking It was getting better the last few days but today is like, the worse day yet X_X

Today I wrote to Premier Tim Houston asking him to immediately convene the Legislature for an emergency sitting. This follows his decision to allow hyperscale AI data centres to be built in Nova Scotia with no regulations and no public input.

This is indefensible behaviour from Everwind. The research done by this reddit poster on the issue is worth your time. The link to the thread www.reddit.com/r/halifax/co... - The Halifax Examiner is one of the last true resources we have for journalism in Nova Scotia. Disgusting.

An open letter to Premier Tim Houston and MPs Kody Blois and Mike Kelloway From me, publisher of the Halifax Examiner

I remember when we were told to never put your real name online as a kid, now we have full on adult CEO's giving their private info to verry flawed and insecure xhat bots and posting their own credit card info and address on main. And we're expected to think these tech bros are big brain geniuses?

This post is unavailable.

Every night we read our daughter 3 books.(short ones, she's not quite 3yo) Some nights I'm way too tired for it but we do it anyways. Spending time with your children is not a problem to be solved. That time spent is a gift both ways, breaks my heart hearing about AI idiots wasting it away.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

Swiss Chalet bought a delivery car from a St.Hubert from NB, but they never bothere to re-paint it and every time I see it drive arround It makes me sad. Someone open a St.Hub in Halifax s'il-vous-plaît!

SwissChalet is genuinely the one chain restaurant where even when I lower my expectations I'm still dissapointed by the food. Not a suitable substitute for St.Hubert.

I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

Gonna be doing a presentation about my work in Anim and what it's like being an Animatior. Lightly nervous wince I've never done this before but shoupd be fun. Def feels strange to be giving a talk while in between work contracts haha.

Picked up the new Fire Emblem game and I am hooooked. Last one I played was Awakening, not sure why I didn't go back to the series since but I feel like I picked a great time to jump back into it.

Finished another painting, this time I wanted to do something more ovviously polygonal looking and chose DK64'd main menu where you get to see DK's jagged edges really well. #donkeykong #painting

Had to return our daughter's favorite Library book since we renewed it the maximum ammount of time so Imade a replica of her favorite page from the book to put in her room. She always makes me do a funny voice when I read this one and makes me repeat read the page like 20 times when we get to it.

future generations are going to view us as we view people in the 1800's stampeding away from that movie about a train.

Can the new cutting-edge AI models feel pain? They at least behave as if they do, according to a recent study. The work, which has not been peer reviewed, has divided #AI researchers. https://scim.ag/4hHU6BA

I know so many of you have already played it, but DRAGON QUEST XI launched for Nintendo Switch 2 today and, if you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing it, please check it out. It is legit one of the best RPGs ever made and the perfect DQ game.

My daughter started at a daycare that's attached to a school a few weeks back and this morn we got there just in time to hear them broadcast "Ô Canada" throught the PA system. As someone from NB I always forget they do this in NS. Don't have a strong oppinion on it but it gives me a weird vibe.

Also it was the orriginal fully french "Ô Canada" which I'm so not used to hearing. We always had the Bilingual one play when we'd go to events and hockey games. To this day I only have the Bilingual version fully memorized, I always forget bits of both unilingual versions.

This is why I hate "just a tool" so so so much. You can make a calculator without access to every calculation. You can make photoshop without access to all photos. Someone show me a genai tool that didn't require all of our labour in its production. It's plagiarism software.

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1
