Widowed and nonbinary. I talk a lot about Star Trek, Ohio, cats, dinosaurs, and whatever I’m watching. The Columbus Dispatch once called me a “local cartoonist and customer-service rep.” (They/Them)

Hi new followers, here’s what you’re in for: Weird bits of late-20th century nonsense from Columbus, Ohio (a city that’s as much a sitcom town as Springfield or Pawnee). A fair amount of Star Trek talk. Rambling about what I’m reading/watching/playing. I write and post a poem every day. Cat photos.

In honor of the passing of the great Walter Koenig, please enjoy this clip from The 1987 Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention VHS featuring Walter Koenig and his son Andrew (who we all knew and loved as Boner on Growing Pains) attending the con.

I want to make an apple crisp and have also decided that looking up a recipe is too much work. So I guess tonight is an experiment.

The time of year when the Christmas movies begin to find me, even when I’m only looking for an obscure low-budget film to honor Walter Koenig. www.imdb.com/title/tt4394... (It’s not “good” exactly, but looks like it was fun to make, and would probably be a lot of fun to watch with a group.)

Walter Koenig just got his finger bit off by a puppet goblin, so never mind what I said before. There’s a whole FOREST of puppet goblins, and they look great!

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I was going to post more photos, but Bluesky keeps crashing and that’s a lot of alt text to retype, so I’ll just send these two gibbon action shots.

The first half of October was awful, between my own health scare and losing my familiar, but the back half has been such idyllic autumn weather. Saturday morning I saw the best sunrise of my life, driving north of 71, and today at the zoo felt like a picture book at times.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

TIL I used to live right next to the grounds for Columbus’ first major league baseball team It’s a shame it’s now a highway on ramp…

Eric Bauza. I’m in shock. He welcomed a friend and I when we stepped into NAS for the first time as fresh baby animation artists. He was unstoppable and unmatched as a voice actor. What are we gonna do without our Bugs? RIP to the best 💔

I might be each of those at one point or another, but THIS is the vibe I hope I bring to the skyline.

My favorite thing about @restingdinoface.bsky.social’s writing is getting to walk across the prehistoric world with her. Also I love (and feel very protective towed) Snaggletooth the Tyrannosaurus rex already.

One of the many great things about preordering from your local indie bookstore is sometimes the book comes in early. I can’t wait to read about @restingdinoface.bsky.social’s Snaggletooth.

it would suck to be on an amazing adventure in a strange and magical kingdom with a talking lion and then one day you're like, Oh what the fuck this is all just christianity

I don’t want to go there as a living being, but if I come back as a ghost (and the rules allow it), I think I’m going to go explore the ocean floor. Like if I’m going to be here forever, and I’m immortal and incorporeal, why not? I’m sure my unfinished business can wait.

My first 5 TTRPGs, in the order I played them. 1. Dungons & Dragons (AD&D 2e) 2. @countesslita.com’s Beast Wars homebrew of the Storyteller system 3. College was mostly White Wolf. I’ll group Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, Aberrant together. 4. Big Eyes, Small Mouth 5. Star Wars (D&D 3e rules)

My first 5 TTRPGs, in the order I played them 1. D&D Basic rule book 1 & nothing else, lol. I did not have the Keep on the Borderlands, or the dice 2. Vampire: the Masquerade 3. D&D 4e 4. Pathfinder 1e 5. D&D 5e Technically I had 3.5e in there before 4e but could never get anyone to play.

Food. Both in terms of quality and variety. I was out of college before smoking was banned in bars and restaurants, and that feels like something from the distant past. No longer needing to hang out with the weed guy. Pretty much everything to do with gender and sexuality, even with this backslide.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

A Secret Service agent stopped me at the Obama campaign rally on the Ohio Statehouse lawn in 2008 and asked “are you Talcott Starr?” My blood froze as imagines of being the hapless protagonist of a spy thriller flashed through my head. Turns out he lived down the hall from me in the dorms. So two.

To flip some discourse script for a bit: what’s y’all’s Obama number (ie degrees of separation with the former president)? Mine is 3
