there are a ton of hilarious examples of this but none will ever top the participant in the NYT's recurring 2024 "focus group" who worked for one of the largest Republican political consulting firms in America.
There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters:
1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence
2. They want to the GOP to win
The Republican politicians sold to you by the national media as reasonable, compassionate, thoughtful people are actually a bunch of irredeemable bigots, pricks to the core, just utter monsters.
I dont know if it's because they love republicans and want them to win but holy crap is this an embarrassment. the equivalent of reckless disregard in terms of journalism fuck ups. Just the simplest damn googling.
A stunning defeat for a Trump-aligned right-wing leader in Europe.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, whose government cultivated close ties with Donald Trump and his family, has conceded defeat to a student-led opposition movement in a historic parliamentary election.
Stunning Lula victory in Brazil is another sign of how easily we all let ourselves get psy-op-ed by the right's expressions of confidence into, you know, believing them. We really have to get over that habit!
🇺🇦🇺🇸 Zelensky:
The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored.
And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed.
This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day.
Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) sent a letter Friday to U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz seeking clarification about the threat, which Padilla said raised questions about “potential federal election interference by your office.” www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Ossoff: "I encourage all of you to reach out to the Collins campaign to ask him how explains the continued production & dissemination of white nationalist and antisemitic propaganda from his property while he runs for the Senate. It's one of the most shocking developments in GA's political history"
Something so odd abt this story and the timing. And all these GOP groups saying yeah of course Lindsey was gay. No duh. Assuming these particular claims are true more than anything just sad. A sad way to spend one’s life. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/22/u...
If your elderly relative routinely blew up at women and insulted them, grossly sexualized other men in public, regularly fell asleep in public mid-meeting repeatedly, and babbled incoherently you'd put him under care and not let him make important decisions.
The crux of my argument about the Dems is: Look how out of it the GOP is when events just coalesce against them. Imagine an opposition operating at max capacity, guns blazing even 40% of the time? It would obliterate the right for a generation.
This would be good for America and the entire world.
The ADL finally chimes in… with one very short post:
"The term 'Shylock' is rooted in a longstanding antisemitic stereotype. Regardless of intent, its use can reinforce harmful tropes about Jews and normalize language that has long been used to target the Jewish community."
David Axelrod and David Brooks clutching their pearls because El-Sayed didn’t roll over for a racist is such a perfect example of America’s white guy politics that it would sound made up if you put it in a novel
A theme running through the progressive dems running this year is just going to voters and talking to them instead of listening to the consultants and focus groups who say they need to spend all their time peeling off disaffected republicans
Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.
Wildly out of touch. Voters want to see their candidates confident and willing to fight, not meekly taking the bait and retreating to whatever won’t offend a moderate Republican
‘Not an Appealing Quality!’ Democrats on CNN Panel Rip Abdul El-Sayed Over ‘Cockiness’ The same pundits who tell female candidates to "smile more" now tell the Muslim Senate candidate to be more respectful to the white bigot who smears them with lies. #STFUwww.mediaite.com/media/news/n...
SpaceX got almost $6 BILLION in taxpayer-funded defense contracts last fiscal year.
Meanwhile, SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, has spent over $360 MILLION in our elections this cycle.
This should be illegal — but it isn't. I'll be introducing a bill to close the loophole that allows it.
Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"
It’s the same way how cults attract rich “smart” people more than they do the average person. It’s not that the cult leader is some genius mind control savant, but people with money and idle time are fucking dumb (see Musk, Elon)
Enten: "Trump's net approval rating -- its all time low! -35 points, the worst he has ever been in the Reuters/Ipsos poll. Among independents he's 54 points underwater. NBC -- worst ever. ABC -- worst ever. Ipsos -- worst ever. Pew -- worst ever."
Why has the ADL said nothing about Trump's invocation of the grossly antisemitic "Shylock" trope? Have they entirely given up any pretense of caring about rightwing Jew hatred?
susan collins saying she had no idea kavanaugh would vote to overturn roe is like loading a gun, putting it in the killer's hand, pointing the gun at someone, telling him to squeeze the trigger, helping him to squeeze the trigger, then saying you're shocked someone died.
Elon Musk is trying to buy this Senate seat in Texas.
He wants our land, he wants our water, and he wants his own personal U.S. senator. He’s trying to buy Texas.
But on November 3rd, we’ll deliver a clear message to the world’s first trillionaire: Texas is not for sale.
Second all of this from @gregsargent.bsky.social. Every Democrat should back Slotkin up and reiterate her point. Don’t come work in government if you’re eager or even willing to participate in Trump corruption. newrepublic.com/article/2168...
Here's what really happened with this Elissa Slotkin saga: She said that a Dem Congress will seek real accountability for Trump's enablers, and a bunch of MAGA goons decided this posed a major threat to their political project. Which it actually does!

i think the gop game plan if they lose the midterms is to george w bush him. pretend nobody ever really supported him, disappear him from their conventions, and then the dumb democrats and the media play along.
So "wedgewood polls" which released a number of polls, most recently of Mississippi, was fake. And the people behind it are now bragging abt it. If these are really industry vets they shld be identified and blackballed forever. This is like GOP freaks who commit vote fraud to show how easy it is.
One thing about this vile video Republicans are circulating featuring Amy Acton’s mother. It is not an ad. It is an online smear campaign.
An ad is required to have a disclaimer at the end, revealing who paid for it and creating a modicum of accountability. This video has no disclaimer.
Trump: "You go up to Minnesota -- number one place in the entire country for the sale of Mercedes-Benz. And Somalians are buying them. They come here with low IQs and no money and they get rich. Do we feel stupid? Our fraud division is getting them all."
He's used "Shylock" like this repeatedly now, and it's not because he's familiar with Shakespeare. Guaranteed he picked up using it as a slur from his father because nobody younger than that says it.

My advice to Democratic candidates is simple: Don’t take advice from “Democratic strategists” who spend the two weeks leading up to Election Day running to the nearest television studio to bash Democratic candidates.

Jan is CBS’s legal correspondent. She gave the puff piece interview to Alito on his book. She’s criticized people who criticize the Court too much / in certain ways.
She’s a perfect case study in why some mainstream/legacy media press coverage of SCOTUS is broken, bad, and misleading.
This is a lie.
Abdul El-Sayed clearly disavowed the Muslim Brotherhood before delivering a masterclass on the First Amendment and religious freedom - a constitutional rebuke of Tommy’s Christian nationalism.
Sen. Ted Cruz is lying.
WELKER: Who do you think is to blame for the disruption to the Starlink and Starshield services?
ZELENSKYY: Of course the message came from the American government
WELKER: Has the system been fully restored?
ZELENSKYY: No, no. We have limitations.
Not only does she misrepresent the content of the exchange, she sides with the bigot who refuses to acknowledge the Constitution’s protections of and from religion.
Meta took down the No Kings organizing page today - the biggest day of protest this fall. They provided zero explanation. It stayed down for the entire afternoon until most of the protests were done.
Outrageous. Put this on the January investigation list.
Ossoff: "It's the most corrupt administration of all time & everybody knows it. While the crook president & his crook family rake in billions from all over the world, you pay more for everything... they lied us into war & spent most of the last year covering up for the world's most famous pedophile"
Ossoff: "Maybe you saw that Donald Trump was in Dalton yesterday, oblivious to the collapse of his presidency. A crowd smaller than this one enduring two hours of senile babbling while the price of oil hit its 5 month high"
JD VANCE: The biggest reason why gas prices are so high is because when Joe Biden ...
DOKOUPIL: It's almost been two years. At a certain point it becomes your economy, not Joe Biden's economy
Here's a supercut of JD Vance having a hard time answering questions about the sluggish economy, Trump's corruption, why the US hasn't already won the Iran war, and more during the CBS town hall that aired tonight
Journalists need to ask prominent people on the record whether they think Trump is trying to establish a dictatorship. There’s an abundance of evidence that Trump indeed is, but hardly any major public figures seem willing to say it.
I believe people are afraid to say what they know to be true.
