My bleakest take is that Ford will push for urban boundary expansion and with this council he will get it without a fight. That, indeed, this council mostly works for Ford.

It's not that 27-30% voter turnout indicates a vibrant local democracy, but c'mon Kitchener. Waterloo: 30.71 (2022: 27.18) Cambridge: 27.01 (2022: 28.87) Kitchener: 22.17 (2022: 20.26) In 2022, this sparked at least a debate. It should resume. www.therecord.com/news/waterlo...

Last night's Hamilton elections result publishing malfunction was the result of screw-ups by the City of Hamilton's "award winning" IT. Instead of preparing for election night, City's top managers was focused on modifying HSR computers to shut down automated bus cancellation alerts #HamOnt #yhmcc

Joey Coleman@joeycoleman.ca

The City of Hamilton's "award-winning" IT teams have achieved the top priority of the HSR. The HSR has disabled the automatic GTFS real-time data alerts for missing buses. Real-time data analysis I just ran shows buses missing on Routes 20 and 43 -- the same daily cancellations as past months

We have a new Mayor, Keenan Loomis. A few incumbents fell incl long timers Brad Clark, Andrea Horwath, Esther Pauls & Ted McMeekin. Jason Farr's concern is back & Tom Jackson re-elected for his 97th term of council. The Nazi got 490 votes (shame on all of you.) Turn out was a paltry 31.59%. #HamOnt

When I moved to Canada in 2001 the idea of “voter cards” being mailed to people was weird. The low voter turnout blew my mind. The strict rules about where to vote, and the somber and restrictive attitudes at polling stations was depressing and off-putting.

I’ve volunteered in many campaigns and I’ve come to this conclusion: either Canada (all levels of government) doesn’t care about elections or they actively oppose them. LET YOUR PEOPLE VOTE! No registration, no ID laws, no long lines, more options, more joy, more inclusion!

When I got my citizenship in 2009 and took a more active role volunteering in elections, I was *shocked* by elections workers turning voters away and giving incorrect information about who could vote, where and when.
