..I cannot help but note that while this is not my definition of fascism, this definition - fascism is when the tools used to subdue the periphery get used on the imperial core" would absolutely qualify the USSR as fascist. Empire, after all, isn't "just when boat" - you can do imperialism on land.
the slightly more general one I prefer is "fascism is when the tools used to subdue the periphery are used on the imperial core." the reaction when the German Empire gassed the Herero to death was, at most, "shoot them like a real empire would, you goddamn nerds." but bring the gas chambers home...

This position - that fascism is somehow super-liberalism rather than anti-liberalism - has always struck me as silly to the point of childishness. Which liberal principle do fascists take to an extreme? Do they believe in private property? No, they're aggressively statist and corporatist.
this is not just Teenager Who's Too Into Warhammer 40K level philosophy, it is ~classically liberal~ to the point of psychosis the assumption that any violence is fascism, and any fascism is violence, and as such it is an eternal companion: an undefeatable nemesis in an unimprovable world.

Fascism (which sucks) strikes us as aberrant *because* we are so modern. But wanting a strong leader to suppress minorities and lead your tribe in a brutal war in which you enslave or massacre your neighbors and take their resources - that was the DEFAULT mode of most polities before modernity.

I actually know the answer to this and it's slightly insane. Google pulls from Wikipedia to determine if a place is a city, town, neighbourhood, whatever. Brighton's first line describes it as a "seaside resort" so Google Maps thinks it's a neighbourhood and doesn't display it in the "city" font.

Chris Hayes: Sen. Bernie Moreno spent his morning raging at Anthony Fauci. But if you ask him about the Republican colleague who’s accused of holding a gun to his own daughter's head, he has no comment.

This is less about being anti data analysis and more about the way that the flippant attitudes of the people who deliver their analyses can be broadly alienating to people with qualitative experiences that don't match their findings. Their desire is to scold and feel superior, not to educate.

I’m a card carrying socialist & union member & all that and/but this book fucking torpedoed for me the myth that Democrats & Republicans are “the same.” The massive, fundamental differences btwn D & R administrations in regard to disabled ppl’s lives is INSANE.👩🏻🦼➡️❤️ judithheumann.com/being-heumann/

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.
Taylor Farms, which supplies major fast food and grocery chains, was identified as the possible source of the cyclosporiasis outbreak Thursday.

Trump’s media company is launching a new product that will allow banks and financial traders to access Truth Social’s data at the “fastest” speed for a fee, giving them exclusive real-time access to posts that may affect the markets, as Trump’s posts frequently do.
