Imagine showing this to any tech-savvy person five years ago. It looks like a magic trick. Absolutely bananas

Google's Genie 4 world model: "Scene: A Victorian high tea. Character: A mouse in appropriate garb." "A porcupine walks by" "The mouse grows wings" "It flies" This is realtime & I can walk around freely. It is glitchy, but also impossibly advanced compared to where we were a couple years ago.

With the depraved concepts these fast food companies come out with now, it’s sorta endearing that in the 70s they were like “New from Burger King! It’s the Giant Boring Burger!” I’m kinda surprised they let the bun have sesame seeds

Discontinued FoOoOods! 👻🎃@discontinuedfoods.bsky.social

Burger King Big Plain (1973-1975): A plain, unadorned burger patty on a sesame bun, with no toppings or condiments, rolled out with a massive advertising blitz. It fizzled out almost as soon as it arrived

From The Lancet: in an urgent care setting, the advice of the obsolete Gemini 2.5 Pro & Gemini 2.5 Flash (without access to patient medical records) were rated of similar quality to doctors by other physicians. There was no safety issues spotted. Models have gotten significantly better since.

Troy Jackson after Collins takes credit for rural healthcare cuts in big beautiful bill not being as bad as they could've been even though she voted to advance the bill: "Sen. Collins is like an arsonist who helped set the fire, and then she wants credit for bringing a cup of water to put it out"

This is pretty extraordinary. Definitely the first time I’ve seen an AI video conversation where the AI looked and sounded real. Usually there’s too much delay in responses and their tone is too flat. (It’s a bit flat here too, but it comes across more as “deadpan” than “fake”)

Sung Kim@sungkim.bsky.social

Maybe I can AI clone myself and let them remote work for companies??? Tavus' Griffin, the first(?) model to pass video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video.

The replies here are variations on “OpenAI hacked them on purpose” and “AI isn’t smart enough to do this on its own”. No and no. OpenAI is too dumb to properly constrain their very smart AI. And yes, “smart”, broadly defined, is accurate. Conscious, no. But incredibly adaptable and capable.

Remember in the 90s when computers got great at chess and the goalposts for “real AI” instantly moved? 4 years ago AI could hardly render an image. Now it does photorealistic video. Bluesky and AI detractors have buried their heads in the sand, and will continue to do so to their own detriment.

Imagine the job security of being gone for 3 months without communication to your boss or any indication that you'll be returning any time soon & still having a job. I say imagine because literally no job would let you get away with this. The people of Kentucky should fire him.

Mitch McConnell returned to the Senate on after a more than three-month absence. “Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues,” McConnell wrote in a statement. nbcnews.to/4h6US9V

I don’t think current models will trigger true doomsday scenarios, but this is a good illustration of how advanced AIs will take a poorly specified goal and run wild with it. It’s terrifying, and OpenAI is basically just bragging about it, probably with zero repercussions or real lessons learned.

Ethan Mollick@emollick.bsky.social

This definitely seems like something worth noting, and illustrates the gap between Fable/Astra class models and the previous frontier that was "merely" good at hacking under human instructions. Initiative, creativity, whatever-you-want-to-call-it by capable models changes things

10 new math discoveries from OpenAI. LLMs are often dismissed as “stochastic parrots.” And yeah, that’s sorta how they work? But with results like this, you have to conclude that a sufficiently advanced stochastic parrot somehow gains some emergent, completely unexpected abilities.

OpenAI announces 10 discoveries from their next model. Observations:: 1) AI is getting very good at math 2) Two years ago LLMs failed at basic math 3) This cost less than $2000 in current API fees 4) OpenAI is focusing on announcing benefits, not just risks, of new models openai.com/index/ten-ad...

More evidence, from a large-scale study in China, that using AI hurts learning if it undermines mental effort. When homework time drops due to AI use, so do test scores. Across studies, there is a clear theme: AI tutoring in support of classes is good, using AI to "help" with homework is bad.

A somewhat in-between take, which I personally believe, is that people vastly underestimate the extent to which developments in art, math, and science are achieved by way of forming an analogy, then asking the analogy questions, as opposed to some sort of discontinuous creative act.

Good lord the tidal wave of morons screaming “staged” based pretty much on vibes makes me fear for the future. It’s like there’s no sane people left in the world who know what Occam’s Razor is. Folks, sometimes crazy people with guns do stupid shit and it’s no more complicated than that.

A lot of Orbán's American fans are saying that this election proved he was never an authoritarian in the first place. This is completely wrong — and, in fact, betrays a complete misunderstanding of both Hungarian politics and modern authoritarianism. Here's why.

Tim reposted

JUST IN: Viktor Orban conceded his defeat in Hungary. The far-right leader & Trump ally will no longer be prime minister. What remains to be seen is the size of his defeat — and whether the opposition wins a supermajority to amend the constitution and reverse Orban’s rule.

I’ve noticed this myself. Usually, I’ve found the overviews to be pretty accurate. But the citations themselves often do not support the AI text, which is annoying at best and gives you a false sense of confidence in inaccurate info at worst.
