This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...
In about 24 hours, poles will open here in Israel. In what is a strong contender for Israel’s most critical elections. The election pits Netanyahu’s extremely unpopular coalition against a non-coherent, but moderately more liberal, opposition. Here are some thoughts as we head into it.

The video of JK Simmons at The Mets game tonight is funny on its own, but I most appreciate the respect for Spider-Man continuity that Peter Parker is a Mets fan
Need an actual artist (not AI) to mock up the National Lampoon's Vacation poster, but it's Sean Duffy instead of Chevy Chase and it's nothing but airport crashes and lines for $8 gas in the background.
(Actual artist. If you put an AI version in my mentions, I'll block you.)
this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive.
when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.
“I am not saying (. . .)that liberal democratic norms were never held by any right-wing figure. But I am saying that conservatism on a structural level held these norms contingently—contingent on hierarchy being viable within democratic institutional norms and frameworks.”
Given Trump’s Easter threats to carry out new war crimes in Iran, we should think one or two steps ahead about a coup attempt connected to the war. And then deter it. (1/17)
Jessica: I love that you read a newspaper.
Watters: I read more than you. Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, New York Post.
Jessica: And you still say this crap on TV after you've read all that?
NEWS: Bette Midler just released a remake of Woody Guthrie’s classic protest song “All You Fascists Bound to Lose,” updated to fit the current moment and urge action ahead of the midterms.

This is phenomenal. The way he steadily rejects the "poor little officers" framing and keeps reminding everyone that THEY started it, reminds everyone of the harm THEY did.
Calmly, but with righteous (and rightful) indignation.
This guy is a hero.
"The thought of masked thugs descending upon polling places terrifies me, just as the thought of masked thugs descending upon my community, upon my children's elementary school, terrifies me. But I do not think they have a reliable path to victory through that method."
Remember folks, if your only model for how to remove a dictator or end a repressive regime is WWII, you are not qualified to have an opinion on what is the right thing to do in 2025.

Going into the New Year, we encourage you to take heart in our victories, in the fundamental weakness of the MAGA party despite occupying the elected branches, and to begin thinking about what comes next. www.liberalcurrents.com/we-are-going...
Back in November of 2024, I did my first PC build because I wanted to get it in before Trump's tariffs jacked up prices.
I got a pretty solid PC for $825.
Those same parts today would run me $1125.
I feel like I got paid $300 to have a nice PC for a year.
These price increases are wild.
I am mostly posting this so I can find it easily to show my fellow teachers but anyone else who comes across it should take a look as well.
Juniors in college should be able to do better than this.
