Out in the foggy side of San Francisco 🌁

Bikes are amazing. But really any means of transportation that lets you slow down and interact with others.

Peter Hartlaub@peterhartlaub.bsky.social

I wrote a bike story aimed at drivers — on why I think more bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure can be a win-win. Gift link 🎁 for anyone still on the fence about Sunset Dunes www.sfchronicle.com/totalsf/arti...

There are plenty of neighbors who now love it. Walking around the neighborhood you see so much more No on G signs. As a neighbor who lives there the park is such an improvement to an unreliable expensive road. The traffic concerns are overblown. There's more cars but there was almost none before.

A two-mile, car-free stretch of coastal highway where visitors bike, skateboard and stroll against a backdrop of crashing waves is at the center of a San Francisco ballot measure fight. Cyclist and families love the park, but neighbors whose streets became detours want to bring the cars back.

All this wasted money for a road that will soon lose it's usefulness when the Great Highway Extension closes.

Zach-o'-lantern@zachlipton.com

ahahaha the Controller's report on wrecking Sunset Dunes came in at $9.8M in capital costs plus $500K-$1.9M every year to maintain the road would be an unhinged use of money

The Sunset Dunes opponents can learn a lesson here. People complained bitterly about tearing down the Embarcadero Freeway, but it turned out to be a great decision and opened up our thriving waterfront. www.sfchronicle.com/totalsf/arti...

sfchronicle.comThe thriving Embarcadero is thanks to this S.F. mayor. It cost him reelectionRazing an ugly freeway and freeing the Embarcadero likely cost this San Francisco mayor his second term. We asked if he would do it again.

Little B is sick today but feels fine, so we're doing some social distancing outdoor time at JFK Promenade and Sunset Dunes. Feeling so grateful for these peaceful, beautiful spaces where we can get our zoomies out and have a joyful Thursday sick day.

Be a part of San Francisco’s new tradition: a Fourth of July parade at Sunset Dunes. Third-annual Fourth of July Parade Saturday July 4 Noon Noriega to Judah at Sunset Dunes 1/4

The title of the petition is misleading "The Great Highway for Everyone Act, Restoring Balanced Access to Parks and Safer Transit", I don't understand how closing a park gives balanced access to parks and safer traffic. That said Sunset Dunes is an amazing thing for the neighborhood.

The never-ending battle over the Great Highway continues. Supporters of Sunset Dunes are suing to block a ballot measure that would reopen the road to weekday traffic. missionlocal.org/2026/06/grea...

This is a ridiculous increase in cost.

48 Hills@48hills.bsky.social

Mayor Daniel Lurie is moving to increase by a factor of five the cost of putting an argument in the ballot handbook, undermining the most affordable way for grassroots campaigns to reach voters.

Meanwhile in San Francisco my district Supervisor Alan Wong sends out endless emails about how his top priorities are to provide more parking and to rescind tree planting requirements

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

The reason people keep doing crimes for Trump is that you get rewarded for doing them, congratulations to Colorado's Dem governor for making sure we get more people trying to overturn elections on his behalf bsky.app/profile/kyle...

Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show: What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

also deprives all of us of the ability to plan an actual future park I'd far rather be spending my 2026 getting cool new stuff for Sunset Dunes than marshaling the tens of thousands of person-hours it will take to relitigate the existence of the park for the third time please, I am very tired.

Jamison Foser@jamisonfoser.bsky.social

you can't have a governable city if you're just constantly re-litigating major infrastructure decisions made by voters. it's just complete chaos, ensures continued acrimony, and deprives businesses and families of the ability to plan. it's a fundamentally unserious *and undemocratic* way to exist.

Also if you are in district 11, which is most of SF, you can contact Connie Chan since she's running to represent you in Congress. 415-554-7410 chanstaff@sfgov.org campaign@conniechansf.com

If you don't live in D4, you can call the Mayor, he has been pushing to end the park since before his election and has been pressuring his puppet supe to come out against it. Tell him you know this is coming from him. www.sf.gov/departments-...

CW: protester being struck in the head by a pepper ball Footage I took earlier of the moment Reverend David Black, a regular protester outside of the Broadview Detention Center, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents on the roof of the facility.

I love the amount of bike parking Hardly Strictly Bluegrass provides. But I wish they weren't only temporary fences so they could be able to accommodate more types of bikes easily.

Here's another angle from Fox News reporter Bill Melugin of Sen. Alex Padilla getting roughed up by law enforcement after he tries to question Kristi Noem at her presser: “I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary. Because the fact of the matter is, a half dozen... Hands off!”
