That 2025 stint when every institution scrambled to bow before the eternally beloved god emperor's million-year reich was weird at the time and only looks weirder and weirder in hindsight. Way way way weirder than any of the alleged excesses of Woke 1
I'm sorry but this is hilarious. Trump's approval for the economy has gone so low it actually broke the scale on the Ipsos graph

Again, bigots will never choose bigotry-lite over the real thing. You're not going to win them but you're going to drive away people who otherwise would have voted for you. And this year -- when voters most of all want "a fighter" in Congress -- running ads about how you will not fight is idiotic.
"No one is going to vote for a Democrat because they came out for a trans sports ban. No one is on the fence being like, "If they just came out for a trans sports ban, then I would vote for them. I don't think that person exists," says @evanurquhart.bsky.social. newrepublic.com/article/2154...

When my wife’s Meta algorithms sniffed out that she’s pregnant a bunch of medical crankery started aggressively filing into her Facebook and Instagram feeds. “MAHA moms” happen because there is a lot of money being spent strategically preying on women going through a stressful experience.

a lot of people want to believe that right-wing beliefs are rooted in some legitimate material grievance. that makes it easier to imagine that if we simply solved the material problem, they’d deradicalize. but they won’t, because they aren’t disillusioned, they’re just morons.
I know this is a common belief, but it’s not true. If people went anti-vaxx/MAHA because they were excluded from the medical establishment, we would see sky-high rates among poor people, minorities and the uninsured. We don’t.
As fake as this anecdote is I think it’s emblematic of the cross pollination going on from MAHA to lefty circles. You have a Ph.D in English and you’re trying to dunk on your doctor for correcting you? That impulse is fundamentally MAHA. Don’t care how much pseudo feminist rhetoric you dress it up in
Sometimes my car mechanic looks at me like I’m stupid (I am). I have yet to look into a chiropractor for my car
*everyone* in medicine is condescending as hell to patients of all types. i’m sure they’re worse to women, and women have more medical contact. plenty of patients are dumb, plenty of dr's think they're brilliant--but there's nothing new about this dynamic that would lead to this problem *now*

Rank and file Republicans are turning against LGBT acceptance and GOP politicians are leaning into bigotry in both rhetoric and policy. But it is you, the progressive queer or ally, who needs to open your mind and consider other people's feelings. news.gallup.com/poll/710810/...

Whatever else was wrong with the United States, we truly did have a higher education system that was the envy of the world. Now we’re lighting it on fire because some people are bored and racist.
There will probably be far fewer foreign students on college campuses nationwide this fall following the Trump administration’s crackdown on international visas. A new report predicts international enrollment will decrease by 9.5 percent this fall.

“Why is my employer paying to constantly orient and onboard new hires when they could just pay existing employees more for better retention, which saves them money in the long run” Because they have class solidarity and work together to keep the cost of labor down.
In a strict dollars-and-cents sense, many many US businesses would individually benefit from passage of Medicare For All, but the wealthy have class solidarity (the only class in the USA who does) and will not lobby for changes that help their own businesses if they hurt their class.

Don't want to speak ill of the dead, so getting this Mitch McConnell take out now. He saw Trump with complete clarity, as a danger to America, but protected him anyway. Perhaps more than anyone, he had the power to end Trumpism, but chose party over country. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/jan-6-and-...

one thing we touch on a bit here is that the argument that racism was essentially solved and therefore required no further intervention was popular among reactionaries as early as the 1870s
This week’s episode is a special one, in honor of America’s 250th birthday: an overview of the role the Supreme Court played in the end of Reconstruction and the rise of Jim Crow, with our friend @kroosevelt93.bsky.social.

"social media platforms are surveillance capitalism panopticons run by technofasicsts, any efforts to limit their use or societal importance are also fascism" is a depressingly common worldview
Social media is cooking our collective brains. While “banning kids from using it” isn’t much of a solution - adults are no less cooked - a lot of reactions to reform proposals sound like when you try to take a bottle from an alcoholic
