"Liberal bubble" has only ever meant anywhere where right wing perspectives aren't artificially elevated and forced into everyone's feeds.

And it was only the interviewer who said that, and since there's no algorithm for following, you create your own bubble. But if one insists on breaking Wheaton's Law (like just about everyone who says "liberal bubble" will, yeah nuclear block lands on the trolls.

They just aren't organically all that popular because a lot of them sound extremely unsettling if anyone's allowed to question them. Which is a thing that happens all the time online.

Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up

we had already become pretty good at it on twitter, which is why elon bought the thing in the first place - there was no other angle of attack left.

I refuse to “both sides“ Science. I’m pro science I’m sick and tired of arguing with these morons abt only two genders. This is the only thing they talk about Science. vaccines work. Climate change and global warming is real. Facts.

Hard disagree. If we aren't honest about our own bubbles, blindspots and mistakes we lose the capacity for self-examination, becoming reactionary. Block buttons, muting and hiding posts are tools of the weak. Being soft has let authoritarianism in. Continuing to cover our eyes and ears is fatal.

I won't get into policy preferences, but Bluesky has a lot of bubble delusions, including "The more people vote, the better my candidate will do" and "If everyone would only read the same things I do, they would all agree with me."

That isn't even unique to the internet, let alone bluesky. People everywhere think that, hell conservatives specifically think that all the time. Why do you think they have so many thought terminating cliches about it?

I come here largely for recreational purposes. Why should I want to spend my leisure time in the company of arseholes? I did enough of that when I worked for a living, and career advancement relied on one's desire to drink beer with cunts.

The notion that people in major metros like SF or NYC are living in “bubbles” was always ridiculous. I can hear 4-5 languages in a day. One neighbor wears a burka and another is Israeli. FFS the bubbles are small towns with 2 churches where everyone has the same white great great grandparents.

Pro-life blue states and Californian “policies extend life expectancy. found that if all 50 states had followed the lead of California policies ranging from labor, immigration and civil rights to tobacco, gun control and environment, it could have added years to the average American life expectancy"

mercurynews.comLiberal policies, like California’s, keep blue-state residents living longer, study findsThe United States’ life expectancy could match that of its Western European counterparts if it widely adopted a broad range of liberal policies, according to a new study. In fact, California has done ...

"Texans 17% more likely to be murdered than Californians Texans 34% more likely to be raped earn 13% less and pay 3.8% more in taxes" (overall) Every MSM only mentions the word "crime" right before an election! "Germans call this "a permanent bailout." We just call it "Missouri."

Eventually they're going to find a way to force the platform to disable the nuclear block. If anything they'll justify it through advertising related moderation restrictions, once they get the platform owners to cave on that.

haha we're all that, anyway :) but yes, the brains that were taught to glorify unnecessary violence and haven't learned what it is to have an increasingly loving partnership with their own mind

I just can't stress enough that this isn't a real thing. What it actually means is *the absence* of some mechanism that artificially normalizes right-wing thought to give it *the appearance* of being on an even footing with what actual normal people think and talk about.

Sadly it is the case that this has been internalized to such an extent that there are otherwise normal people who will look at an online space and wonder what's wrong with it if they aren't seeing people openly discussing 1920s race science right away

Conservative views aren't being suppressed here, they are just A) not being boosted and B) incredibly unpopular because they are odious

They are also just boring. They get shoved in our faces from all other social and mainstream media so we are all very familiar with conservative views on immigration. It’s nice to hear other views.

Honestly one of the most gratifying things about this site is seeing the antibody-like response when somebody posts some whack shit, and they get <4 likes and 120 replies telling them to pound sand. It makes me feel like I'm among same individuals.

Conservatives also tend to see spaces like Bsky as untapped wilderness for their views because they see the moderation standards as oppressive and so they put on the nice face to get in with whoever controls the levers.

If you pour enough money in to it you can glue the racists to the business tyrants but in the end it’s going to reduce to the least common denominator and you get white monarchism

Exactly. There’s nothing stopping right-wingers from using this site as much as they want. And there’s nothing stopping us from blocking & ignoring them en masse - which is the part they find intolerable.

"Liberal Bubble." IE. "How dare you block people who post stupid fascist/homophobic/racist shit. Social media isn't supposed to be fun, sir! If someone posts something that makes you angry, so be it! Free Speech!"

True, all the oligarchs are pushing far-right propaganda constantly now I was just in YT and they recommended me the fake journalist guy, even though I've blocked him (blocking does not work if he collabs)

Bluesky is a liberal bubble. Its users are a self-selected group of mostly-liberals. These responses show this. Some responses equate conservatism with “fascism,” but conservatism is a direction of thought. We may choose to be conservative about some things (i.e. grammar) and liberal about others.

It's not a bubble. Right-wingers simply do not have platform-level engagement rules to exploit here to artificially inflate the reach of their repellent views the way they do elsewhere.

The existence of nefarious platform-level biases on X doesn’t rule out the hypothesis that Bluesky’s user base is a self-selected, ideologically-aligned group. How would you prove that Bluesky offers a representative diversity of opinion?

I wouldn't bother, actually. I don't think it's a particularly interesting thing to try to prove. And this is bad faith special pleading anyway if you're only going to do it for this site and not others.

I would welcome hearing right wing perspectives that are not performatively inhumane, have some basis in functional reality, and point to an improvement of people's lives. Conservatism is nothing more than people who want to be wealthy protecting people who actually are. I'm just not impressed.

It’s funny how, especially in the US, we’ve only ever been concerned with elevating minority opinions when those opinions are bigoted and racist as hell.

And basically no one in corporate media talks (due to complicity in the problem) about the fact that there are massive swaths of the country — whole Designated Market Areas (DMAs) — where there are ZERO Liberal content outlets in either radio, TV, or newspapers. THAT is a bubble🫧 A rightwing one.
