As someone who covered Robodebt in part, it's clear nothing has really changed. Worse: the politics of federal Labor on social security are baffling. We keep hearing about how people have "lost trust in institutions". Wiping these debts seem a simple answer to help. Instead, they rewrote the rules.

As parents we have choices: 1) get to know our kids, as people, over time, by spending time with them. 2) ask an overhyped computer program to describe them for us, then - gotta go, off to another marketing meeting! SILICON VALLEY PARENTS know that 2 is what EPIC WINNERS do.

Very easy to sympathise with the workers here but you need to remember that the shareholders need massive growth in their passive income so perhaps think before you criticise

The first Gen AI ad I saw that showed a use case scenario was a person had to read a screenplay and then didn't, so they trick the person they're meant to do this for into thinking they did. The entire purpose of this technology is to trick people and it turns out no one likes being tricked.

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

When the AI bubble pops, we can’t repeat past corporate bail outs. We need to be ready with policies that protect ordinary people and hold tech execs accountable. We also need to talk about nationalizing AI companies — or maybe even abolishing them altogether… @astra.bsky.social @theguardian.com
