Incidentally fight/don't-fight maps pretty well onto not-crank/crank in terms of Dem constituencies There is actually a coherent political concept, in the current era, behind AOC-Kristol-Bouie Thought

Angus Johnston@angus.bsky.social

My very strong suspicion is that the left/right axis and the fight/don't-fight axis are in the process of unlinking, and that the fight/don't-fight split is emerging as the core struggle in the Democratic Party.

I think it’s fascinating how this administration’s guiding principle on every single policy is just “be evil.” Starving children? Take away their food. AIDS patients? Take away their treatments. Refugees from conflict zones? Deport them. Nations under attack? Cut off assistance. VA? Fire everyone.

Pretty clear. The goal here was to do a kind of ritual humiliation of Zelensky and Ukraine. They pushed Zelensky past his limit. Trump now says, in essence, you're own your own with Russia. Up to the free states of Europe now.

Kevin Rothrock@kevinrothrock.me

Trump declares that Zelensky is “not ready for peace,” accuses him of trying to prolong the war using U.S. leverage, and says he’s not welcome back at the White House “until he’s ready for peace.”

Thread on why you don't hate legacy media nearly as much as you should.

NY Times Pitchbot@nytpitchbot.bsky.social

(1/X) The next four years are likely to be a disaster in many regards: more plane crashes, more outbreaks of measles and other infectious diseases, snafus with tax refunds and Medicaid payments, terrorist attacks, and probably a recession. The media will tell us none of it is Trump's fault...

it’s extremely revealing that the countries most frequently cited as role models by the alt-right are Hungary, El Salvador, and Russia unlike Elon, I actually like America and don’t think we should be importing corrupt governance structures from authoritarian states with a fraction of our GDP

This is money already owed. For work already done. They’re asking SCOTUS to let Trump run the government the way he runs his businesses.

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS over order that State/USAID pay owed contracts by the end of the day. This is coming out of Judge Ali’s Feb. 13 TRO, which he ordered the government to adhere to — with a deadline — in a new order issued on Tuesday.

There's this tendency among right wing politicians and silicon valley types to say the dumbest shit and frame it in this "why do you hate efficiency" or other "just asking questions" ways, knowing their bots and (even dumber) followers will just parrot it. 1/

"Amazon deliveries." This is Jason Calacanis, a venture capitalist & prominent Musk toady. And he does not know a big percentage of Amazon deliveries are made by the USPS. I will never get over how stupid the people at the top of US society are.

Arguments about the price of media mail. Hell, even Germany has privatized mail service. I'm sure perfectly valid points can be made for what they're getting at. But when they pretend they don't know any of this, or that older and rural Americans depend on medication shipments, that tells me 4/

That this is not about increasing efficiency or improving service or achieving cost reductions. When they lie to me, and you, they are saying they don't give a shit about us and are really just trying to distract us as they try to strip this country for wire.

With Elon and especially Jason it can be hard to tell what is genuine stupidity vs trying to feel some spec of validity from getting a horde of morons to repeat their JAQ-off talking points. I know dick about the USPS, but I know 2/

That fucking Amazon uses them! It's been a big boost to their revenue. It's also the reason they deliver on Sunday. I also know they don't depend on taxes to function (that's is how I know this one is an op). There are even reasonable 3/

Anyone want to wager whether Russia or China would go along with this? Do these illiterates know what happened to the small and medium German states once the Holy Roman Empire was gone?

Even calling Yarvin (or any of these people) midwit is too complimentary. Every part of this is unworkable (and undesirable). Even if they could get it to temporarily happen, all these microduchies would get swallowed up by those that could finance large states.

Exactly. Elon doesn't care when he lies but he looks like a moron when he says things like the USG doesn't use SQL. And his broccoli boys are so incompetent they didn't filter out judicial or natsec accounts from the DOGE email. These subjunior devs can't write a line of code without Copilot.

e.w. niedermeyer@niedermeyer.online

Stories like this matter because Elon still has lots of soldiers who genuinely believe that he lives up to his "first principles" patter, and puts merit and efficacy first. Experienced tech folks need to make it clear that he and his goons are partisan hacks with "limited technical understanding."

So many rich guys living a fantasy where they're freeing children from traffickers even as they back a rapist in the White House who is pardoning sex criminals, gutting CSAM investigations, separating kids from parents at the border and endorsing the mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children by Russia.

The Russification of America

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

The DC police last week sought to arrest a sitting member of Congress, a Florida Republican, for physically assaulting a woman in DC. But the US attorney’s office didn’t sign off on it. www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/f...

In 2008, Clinton won more primaries (Obama mostly won caucuses) and more overall votes than Obama. It was rough and hard-fought and CLOSE. But in the end Obama won according to the rules in place and we didn't have to hear about it being "stolen" for TEN FUCKING YEARS.

Just as I said, surrendering to Russia makes WWIII more likely, if not imminent, not less.

Polish general Rajmund Andrzejczak: "If Russia attacks even an inch of Lithuanian territory, the response will come immediately. Not on the first day, but in the first minute. We will hit all strategic targets within a radius of 300 km. We will attack St. Petersburg directly". (October 2024 onet.pl)
