No, they were middle-aged men wearing powdered wigs, elaborately embroidered hostess jackets, silk hose, and shoes with enormous buckles and substantial heels. In other words, our Constitution was written and signed by drag queens.

Trump makes an indescribable sound effect: "I'd say 90% of the reason I took the governor-- EUHHH"

With the election looming, the GOP is calling in the big guns. Which means having a megachurch freak named Timmy dispatch an army of walleyed 23yo home-school casualties with YouTube diction to opposing candidates' rallies, where they will demand those candidates reject and denounce the WNBA.

When I get asked about my favorite/best restaurant meals, I always mention a great experience we had with our then-toddler boys on a long drive at…an Olive Garden off I-95 in Virginia. It is definitely not about the food alone!

Helen Rosner@hels.bsky.social

I don’t want to harp on this too hard but reducing things to “food” evinces a pretty shallow understanding of what a restaurant is (and how enjoyment functions). Do you have a favorite dish or favorite restaurant colored by nostalgia? Congratulations, the food is less important than the emotion.

In honor of High Fidelity, the list is autobiographical. If you don’t have a compilation/live album on your list I am skeptical.

I need to incorporate this into our next local Repair Cafe event

Nice campaign by the Norwegian Consumer Council about the declining lifespan of products. Enjoy!

Double-screening the Oasis doc in an empty theater and the City/United derby. Some are saying it’s the most Manchester thing to do on a Sunday morning.

Look at this bad boy

What are you doing with your midlife existential crisis? No wrong answers. Just trying to see something, as the kids say.

Damn I wish I’d known about this when we dropped our son at school! The Renwick Gallery is the underrated gem of the Smithsonian and I can’t recommend it enough.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

Excellent taste as you’d expect from a super-genius

Wile E. Coyote is doing a reddit AMA right now for Coyote vs ACME and strictly answering through signs, and it's genius.

I had a Document-era poster on my freshman dorm wall in 1996 (a hand-me-down from my older sister), which I thought was incredibly cool in terms of street cred. A girl on my floor thought so too, and we’ve been married over 20 years.

I also agree with Peter Buck’s liner notes in Eponymous - the added horns on Finest Worksong made it even better.

Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: A chief technology officer is worried about keeping his spreadsheets private.

-Grease me up, woman -We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas -Where today, everyone’s a little bit Irish - except, of course, for the gays and the Italians (every St. Patrick’s Day for the last 30 years) -Way to breathe, No-Breath -Oh, yes, but I'd trade it all for a little more

The five Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most: 5) Milhouse: My Dad’s a pretty big wheel down at the cracker victory 4) McBain: Ice To See You 3) You Don’t Get Friends with Salad 2) Homer: And who can forget rat boy? 1) Comic Book Guy: “Is there a word in Klingon for lonliness? Oh yes. ‘Aag-plach!’”

had a friend who was a concierge at the Four Seasons and he had two special jobs whenever Elton came to town 1. Always know the score of the Braves game when they were playing so he could update Elton 2. Pick out his glasses for the day for him

I can’t imagine moving to Atlanta in the early 90s to get away from all the big city coastal cocaine and becoming a braves fan during their epic run atop the NL east division

Marsha Blackburn's new ad is so racist that it makes me wonder if mainstream Republicans could have gotten away with something like this back in the 1980s or 90s.

While pressing out some burger patties I told my son how in my head I always hear “burgers” in Gru’s voice. Without missing a beat he replied “wow you really like accent work, don’t you?”

It’s in the DVD extras, but the edit where Sam Jones pulled together different rehearsals of Cars Can’t Escape (the best track left off YHF, this is not up for debate) is incredible and heartbreaking youtu.be/WWIQcCRkPdk?...

You can watch all of the Wilco documentary on YouTube for free if you want to. It’s a really compelling look at creativity and stubbornness. Working together and sometimes not being able to. Definitely not rockstar glamour. youtu.be/-yVj3Yhw8ys?...
