FR<>EN #translators, it’s time to vent. What words are the worst to #translate? I’m thinking of things like valoriser, structurant, and dynamique in #French and insight and escalate in #English. Rant away! #translate #xl8

For anyone who needs any of these: Take your meds. Hydrate, you precocious, mobile houseplant. You’re doing your best and that’s more than enough. You should be so proud of how far you’ve made it and all you’ve accomplished. Stop letting the unrealistic standards online get you down. Take care

In hot weather like this, remember to keep an eye on your freelancers. Move them to a shaded spot, indoors if possible, away from ‘people’. Distract them with a computer or some unrealistic deadline. Do check on them, by email, but don’t forget to set yours to out of office in case they reply 🙏

The Oxford comma (also known as the ‘serial comma’) is the comma that separates the second to last item in a list from a final item that is introduced by ‘and’ or ‘or.’ It is optional...but be aware that not using the serial comma can result in some ambiguity.

Hey ding-dongs, let’s have a chit-chat about 'Ablaut reduplication.' If you have three words, the order usually goes 'I-A-O.' -tic-tac-toe If there are only two words, ‘I’ is the first and the second is either ‘A’ or ‘O.’ -click-clack -King-Kong

The advantage of Big Stupid Tables over generative AI is generative AI necessarily produces outputs that are likely to appear in its training data, while the outputs of a good set of dice tables may consist mainly of combinations of elements never before attempted on account of being dumb as hell.

Last night in #DnD shenanigans: I made it canon that when shifters bite someone, the victim turns into a furry. Or if they’re nonhuman, a skinny. There’s a convention every full moon.

Today my manager told me about a term paper he just graded that opened with, “Automatic translation software has been in use since last century. Back then, in 1987[…]” Rude.

2/2 "We noticed you have a... simple lifestyle," they said. "A lot of phone games and TV. You've got psychic energy you're not using. We would just siphon off some of the excess to power up our telekinetic soldiers on the battlefield." I frowned. "But I need my brain for work." They just laughed.

I was sitting at my desk, doing my spreadsheets, when the men in the gray suits #returned. People said they were some kind of military recruiters. "You'd make a great psychic battery," they said. "You could help defend the country and keep your job." "A battery? What do you mean?" #vss365 1/2

There’s a time and a place for everything. Unfortunately, due to a rupture in the space-time continuum, the time and the place for any given action are seldom concurrent anymore. This, as much as anything, explains the general lack of satisfaction which pervades the universe. #vss365
