Right Wing Domination of Media & Politics Keeps Us Stuck in Disinformation and Right Wing Government

1. The midterms are in eight days, and the story of the election is probably going to be about Hispanic voters. They moved toward Donald Trump in record numbers in 2024. They are now swinging back to the Democra www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/u....
There's something deliciously ironic when someone tells a story about a nation that once led the world in science succumbing to religious extremism and dogmatism, and that someone is RFK Jr.
Tech journalists Professor Jeff Jarvis @jeffjarvis.bsky.social, Paris Martineau @paris.nyc &
Mikah Sargent had a fascinating discussion about You Can See Everything. Paris especially has convinced me that I need to see it again.
The "Imaginary Trump" is exactly who many high-info Republicans voted for. They create a version of Trump in their minds who champions all the causes they care for and they ignore/rationalize/minimize anything else as unimportant noise. Then they get upset when Trump hurts them.
True. Though not all Trump supporters are. T did great with ppl who consume no news e.g. just noticed yard signs saying "Kamala high prices, Trump lower prices."
Very very few T voters knew all the stuff high info liberal voters know about Trump. Most voted for an imaginary Trump.
Every organizer and activist I spoke to for this piece had the same message to share: "we're ready"
"When and if we have an uptick in federal enforcement at the polls, it's going to get documented really, really quickly, and it's going to be beamed out to the world that it's happening.”

NEW: US lawmakers say the Trump administration is breaking the law by withholding a secret court opinion about the surveillance of Americans, even as it presses Congress to renew America’s most sweeping surveillance program.
🚨SENATE ALERT: Democrats are closing in.
Silver Bulletin gives Dems a 76% chance to win the Senate—with strong leads in NC, GA and NH, and competitive races across OH, ME, MI, MN, AK and TX.
But Republicans are flooding the airwaves with money to stop the blue wave.
Vote early. Finish the job. 🔵
In his talk at Princeton, @marcelias.bsky.social noted that the election suppression he worried about was less ICE at the polls and more ICE putting up traffic checkpoints and other things that made access to the polls much harder.
And it looks like we’re seeing a version of that in Brazil.

PS: Conversing with @scottwhitegloves.bsky.social down-thread, I realized I should have linked a story of how Trump repeatedly lied about his Project 2025 support.
We knew he was lying. The media often just parroted the lies. We need ways to break through the lies w/our own media.
The media cover politicians' agendas so little that the extreme policy views of Republicans receive almost no attention in the public mind.
In fact, many Republican leaners literally do not believe you when you tell them what Republicans actually want.
We need more media.

When Donald Trump launched his campaign, he was caught hiring paid actors to pad the audience. (I also happened to be the one that busted him doing so).

Trump is set to unveil a plan to dial back federal requirements designed to slash methane emissions from oil and gas operations, casting the proposal as a way to encourage more domestic energy production and lower costs.

The far-right in this country was scattered across multiple parties but using strategic thinking they consolidated into one party, began optimizing their message for rural areas (the Southern Strategy took East Coast libertarianism to "outreach to the rednecks"), and then targeted the judiciary.
if democrats win one of the biggest strains will be the drive to hold them accountable for holding trump and the gop acountable. every time for the last 40 years when the dems have won they took their foot off the gas and we suffered. we must push them and their boot-licking defenders.
The powerful executives who cozied up to Trump didn't oops accidentally forget about pendulum swings. They either:
1) Like the fascism
2) Calculated it was here to stay, so going along was savvy
3) Saw no real downside, no consequences when the pendulum swung
Crucial to show them 3 was a mistake
Great joining @jimacosta.bsky.social today! Now we’re heading to the James Talarico rally this evening, where we’ll be streaming live. Hope you’ll tune in!

on the radio they were saying a neighborhood in Newport Beach flooded today because of a single homeowner who refused to set up sandbags lmao. unprecedented levels of climate denial in Southern California
Republicans in TX were traditionally more accepting of Latinos than many other Republican states. GWB was able to translate this goodwill from his time as governor to a strong showing among Latinos in both his presidential bids. The nightmare for Texas Rs is a Dem leaning mobilized Latino population
Here's the updated Hispanic/Latino numbers from selected states. Sure appears we have a clear and documented backlash to Trump's cruel mass deportations policies on our hands. 2/
eh go fuck yourself. "be neutral on [insert interest] when you run and then stick it to the industry when you win" is a time honored way of actually getting things done.
i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

These numbers are telling.
CBS News projects Democrats at 229 House seats to Republicans’ 206. Look at what voters are saying:
• 65% say the economy is bad.
• 57% say Trump’s policies have hurt them financially.
• DON’T MISS THIS: 83% say government corruption is a major factor in their vote.

One thing people are missing from the new Jim Comey charges.
They came 2 days after Aakash Singh was promoted to PADAG.
Comey has been arguing that Trump keeps hiring people for the primary purpose to prosecute him, and this is consistent with that.

For the last month, I've been posting examples of Trump's authoritarianism that I call "Dictator Move of the Day." If you search that phrase, you'll see that the fascist president is constantly trying to undermine our democracy.
I'm going to keep doing these posts. We've got to stop him.
