Pedagogy is not some new, unsolved problem awaiting its Silicon Valley disruptor. If you want good teaching in any given subject, it’s there to be had. If you just don’t want to pay for it, then all we’re really talking about is how much you want something for nothing. That’s nothing new, either.

We know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.

There was a time, now slipping from memory, when the foremost work of political leaders was to frame everyday sacrifice in deeper meaning. Now the President whines on our behalf because the biggest crisis of the last decade required a modicum of flexibility and forbearance.

My youngest spent her first ever year of school in lockdown. My oldest spent an entire year in online classes. I am just not buying this argument that we should have murdered more old people for them to go to school.

However, deducing strategy from the crew that brought us "what do you mean they shut down the Strait of Hormuz" is probably a fool's errand.

Yes. I reject any framing of the Platner story as "progressive vs establishment" or "left vs center." The opposition to him has always been "he's obviously an unrepentant liar and a bad human being." His claimed policy positions were irrelevant, and he had no track record of believing them anyway.

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

Given the red flag parade I think we have to at least consider Platner was full of shit about his governing priorities too.

Country's got a real joy deficit above everything else. Knicks win, World Cup going well until Trump ruined them is proof of that. Just create constant excuses for celebrations and parties. We need excuses to hang out more than we need maybe literally anything else, economically.

The military is socialist. But! The military isn't socialist simply by virtue of benefits, but because members of the group are committed to the group, above themselves. The concept is ancient, but often attributed to Marx: "from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs."

I’ve been watching a combination of D Day movies and 60’s political thrillers(think Seven Days in May). What’s so striking is that everyone acts and talks like a serious adult. It’s almost jarring.

The only safeguards that would work are ones that would prevent MAGA from rising in the first place...and fundamentally, that means changing the electorate to be more empathetic and intelligent. That's not a simple matter.

No, of course I don't see any contradiction between, on the one hand, declaring hostilities terminated and, on the other hand, rejecting a peace deal, threatening to "blast the hell out of 'em", and continuing to enforce a blockade. Well, sure, blockades are an act of war I guess. Why do you ask?

The president of the USA falling asleep isn’t the worst thing you see in this photo. The worst are those behind pretending nothing unusual is occurring.

Ironic isn’t it? Had an ICE thug been hurt at the very same location 5 minutes earlier, Alex would have dropped everything to save his life. But 5 minutes later….

This man had me in sobs yesterday. “I’m okay. I’m just so fucking angry.” When the gas enveloped him, I lost it. He’s a patriot and more importantly? A good neighbor.

I’m running against the first Congressman to endorse Trump: Darrell Issa. To MAGA extremists, I’m not American enough. Because I’m half Palestinian. Half Mexican. But I served in the Obama Administration and joined the military. I’m 100% American. And here’s the best part🧵

Paragraph 2: It's a proven design! Ready on day 1! (Or is it 2 weeks?) Paragraph 3: It's a new mission with new equipment. Probably. We think. Nowhere in this "think" piece: We remember that paragraph 2 is exactly what they said about the Constellation, when it was announced.

South Korea is one of the most vibrant liberal democracies, with a market economy. North Korea is one of the most staunch autocracies, with a planned economy. Both were established within living memory, starting from a shared culture.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.
