Americans like to think we waged revolution by guerilla warfare because we did. Was guerilla warfare the primary means of battle? No, but I didn't say it was. That the war was primarily fought by Continental regulars doesn't changed the fact that there was a not insignificant asymmetric contribution

Everyone is "like-minded" until you realize one of your like-minded neighbors just put an 8" blade through your skull. It's hilarious the amount of Americans that believe in this warrior mythology, but forget that all Americans are borne of a country that waged revolution by guerilla warfare.

Trumpism has succeeded because his side draws up a passionate core and supplements it with gigantic media presence. There is no alternative to this. Goody-two-shoes "let's participate in democracy together" crap goes nowhere. You can only defeat fascist power with progressive power. /end

Credentialism is good.

Brandon Friedman@brandonfriedman.bsky.social

Maybe it makes me a credentialist, but I hate how we constantly elevate guys like Yglesias — who have no relevant education or work experience. In politics, he's never run for office, worked on a campaign or served as an appointee. On policy, he has a BA and has never worked in government.

I wait for the day we get a chaotic video that most closely resembles Ghadaffi being pulled from that drainage culvert.

Musk’s wealth is a threat to democracy—not just in the U.S. but everywhere. He’s probably the greatest threat to the free world today.

Wake Up '92 reposted

There is genuine public rage about Musk, which is what Congress is responding to, so when he says he will come for the people pulling the strings, he means the voters.

Elon Musk threatens Congress.

I’ll disagree: The answer is not individual action. It is collective action through government: media antitrust (break apart FB and Insta), it is forcing interoperability as we do with phones and cable and other standards, and it is building public alternatives.

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

... the answer is to not use platforms like Insta, and bring communities to social media built on open protocols, such as atproto or ActivityPub, where the account holder has way more control.

I like the way Mike leans on 'Protected Speech' and "how would you feel if MAGA GOP yanks in MSNOW", when in fact the MAGA oligarchs are essential out to own the entire media world and only allow their 'speech'. Freedom of speech is a great concept... when you have a democracy.

Wake Up '92 reposted

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

People demanding Zuck be hauled before Congress to explain why No Kings insta was suspended... how would you feel if MAGA GOP hauled MSNow execs to explain why they covered Trump the way they do? Both are editorial choices protected by the First Amendment. If this annoys you...

Wake Up '92 reposted

If Meta suspended the account at the request of or under pressure from the admin, that would be “jawboning” — and a 1A violation. This was exactly what the MAGA states argued wrt the Hunter Biden story and COVID minsinfo. The purpose of the investigation would be to find out if that happened

Repost if $30k would change your life right now

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

"....has become...."

I note to people what the Democrats regaining both houses will demonstrate that we are in the middle of a constitutional crisis, so the Democrats should come loaded for bear.

I don't mind that there are people in the coalition very dedicated to single payer health care as their goal I do mind trying to make it the be-all, end-all of progressive politics in 2026: that's fighting fascism

Thank you to everyone who stood with me over the years. It’s been a scary journey but I have always been grounded in my work and ability to provide exemplary service to my constituents. Trump and his administration have been after me since I arrived in Congress.

BREAKING WaPo: Trump officials scrutinized Rep. Ilhan Omar in 2019. They didn't find citizenship issues.
The earlier review of Omar's immigration records looked at many of the same issues being investigated now.

In any event, I actually answer your four questions similar to how you do yourself. I just think that the *aggreed upon downsides* are not really downsides, when understood properly. It's not a "so what" answer. It's a "no, actually this might be better" answer.

When you’re applying for the job of U.S. Senator, you should show up for the job interview. Ken Paxton showed up in London on the 4th of July to party with the British. He showed up in Dubai to party with fugitives. He’ll show up anywhere but a debate stage in Texas.

New from me: Michael Lewis provides a timely reminder that even the heroic federal employees who tried to block DOGE grifters could only do so much. If DOGE could not be stopped at the time, accountability must be on the agenda for the future. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/blockers-a...

I feel like at the rate Ken Paxton scandals are rolling in by Election Day there’ll be video of him dissolving a body in acid.

I think to a degree this could be useful. If people start getting arrested, then contractors, companies, and employees are going to start thinking twice about doing what they're told. Make the consequences stark for the people at the bottom of the food chain if those at the top won't halt.

I ask again, why are national Dems letting Elon "quietly" fund these races? We have two test cases. 2024 when Dems didn't make his money an issue. And 2025 Wisconsin, where they did. Guess which time they won by double digits?

wired.comElon Musk’s America PAC Is Quietly Funding November’s Most Consequential ElectionsAmerica PAC’s approach has been unusual: for every dollar it has spent supporting GOP Senate candidates, it has spent almost three dollars attacking Democrats.
