Today, I resigned as Vice Chair of the ODP Pride Caucus. The state party expects us to be a sales team, censoring our voices when we beg candidates not to trade on trans lives. I am still a Democrat, but I will not value party approval over true, defiant advocacy. Full text below. 👇

it’s become so normal for people to disclose their rapes to appeal to people’s humanity around rape cases that we don’t think about how disgusting the need to do that is put the worst moment of your life out for public consumption, so that half the comments can call you a liar.

Few people *like* testing software proofs but hyper-inflated bizdev bros don't even accept it as a thing that actually exists.

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social

These sweeping statements about more work being like software engineering that people realize and “all service work can be automated” immediately hits me as 1) a claim that can be tested and 2) one that hasn’t been sufficiently tested. But they all just blithely accept it.

I was sent into an interview by a recruiter at a really miserable looking warehouse space stuffed full of cubicles. Dim lighting, white noise piped from dozens of ceiling speakers. They asked if I knew the difference between a switch & a router. I sighed, and said, "About $50"

Iowa Dem. Gov. candidate Rob Sand was confronted at a rally yesterday over anti-trans positions. A constituent asked if he would walk them back. He refused to, and in fact said he supported sports bans. Another constituent shouted "COWARD!" in the background. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Cis folks should get comfy with booing this stuff. Normalize it out there.

this. do you know how embarassing it was to watch a sporting event on tv in a room where you're the only trans person? and that "kamala is for they them ad" comes on and everyone knows it's about you? and they all just kinda laugh nervously or look uncomfortable? because it wears on us.

IMHO any candidate who is against trans rights is taking an unacceptable stand (that some people should have restricted rights) and outs themselves as demonstrably unelectable by doing so.

If you spend even one second scolding anyone who doesn’t want to vote for transphobic democrats instead telling those democrats to fix their shit then you’re just an asshole. You’re a stupid fucking bigot and your instinct to tell trans people how to feel is blaring like an air raid siren.

youre probably looking at this fruit and thinking ‘wow, that must grow on a tropical island somewhere’, and you’d be WRONG AS HELL. its a pawpaw, the largest edible fruit native to north america. this is our first one and it tastes like banana, vanilla, and cantaloupe made a weird ass threesome baby

why is it not enough that vulnerable people must give up their rights for the greater good? why must they also accept their own sacrifice quietly and graciously? ask yourself if you would be so forgiving if you were the one expected to suffer for the greater good

The midterms are shaping up to be a referendum on whether trans people should exist, with Republicans saying we shouldn't and Democrats saying maybe Republicans have a point on some of these issues. Good luck, everybody!

👇 THIS right here. Talarico, Turek, et al ARE THE ONES WHO CHOSE THOSE POSITIONS. if you're afraid those decisions may alienate pro-trans/LGBTQ+ voters, THEN BLAME THEM, NOT US!

Very disheartening to see more and more Dem politicians lean into anti trans positions and when trans people say "man, this sucks" they get swarmed by people yelling at them for handing elections to the GOP. Wish they had that energy for the politicians.

This is... to me... a denial that trans people exist. The reference to genetic anomalies is common anti-trans language referring to intersex people.

In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.
