Best explanation so far

Melissa Ryan@melissaryan.bsky.social

The only reason anyone is talking about Marissa Mayer or Dazzle is that her marketing team understands how to deploy rage bait, and most of the Internet still can't spot it in the wild.

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Yeah I don’t see how this isn’t a crisis at this point? You cannot have a private citizen running a full private foreign policy which runs against that of the United States like this

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.

This is an excellent idea. If you haven't yet been to a People's Emergency screening do make time for it

I was asked to host a #peoplesemergencybriefing this week, and have made a set of cards to help the facilitation afterwards. Have put them up here as a free to download resource, for printing professionally, at home or using online. Please share with others. #peb #neb smithery.com/peoples_emer...

Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and then post a photograph of a boat you like. The Itchenor - Bosham ferry, West Sussex.

“Bricker says that “we are about to witness a bizarro-land Frost/Nixon, where both interviewer and subject have almost exclusively inhabited semi-fictional personae in public”” I’m sold, find me a screening. www.wired.com/story/the-ne...

wired.comThe New Fan’s Guide to the Unreal World of Nathan FielderSurprised by the hype around yet another documentary on Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes? It has everything to do with this experimental comedian.

It occurs to me that this rhetorical sleight of hand - heap the blame for everything into illegal migrants @rafaelbehr.bsky.social - is used by AI boosters but for heaping *every hope imaginable* into the promised land of magical AI delivery. It’ll solve climate! Hunger! Physics! Just *believe*.

GylesNaMopaleen@gylesnamopaleen.bsky.social

This is quite extraordinary. I don't think I have heard a more coherent, articulate and accurate deconstruction & demolition of Nigel Farage's ReformUK, Tory & Restore policy than this. In under 85 seconds! @rafaelbehr.bsky.social is on here folks and worth a follow.

I'm sorry, an AI guy telling you "The wool is being pulled over your eyes" while simultaneously owning a huge ass yarn factory will never not be funny. You're literally part of the problem my guy.

Morgan Johnson@poormojo.bsky.social

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

This just doesn't make any sense. The amount of memory necessary to run an LLM, and the processing power required... Your fucking thermostat aint gonna support that. These people just lie. They lie like its a reflex.

Sadly, that seems unlikely. It's all become a self-sustaining circle with a whole industry of specialists to turn your proposal into "the way the funding committee will like it". 🙄

We have applied for two UK Government Framework things over the last few months. Now that everything is in on the second, I idly decided to check the total word count. We’ve written 26,373 words about ourselves and our projects. Feels like a lot. But hey, Ask Me Anything now, I have it written.

Also, we actually wrote it and edited it, with our thoughts and ideas, brains and typing fingers. You can’t help but think that the vast majority of firms have used an LLM first pass with minor tinkering to jump through these hurdles. And I pity the folk reading endless identical slop.

It’s remarkable what strength, goodwill and momentum a local brewery can generate. Something about place-based futures in this I’m sure, as well as the interesting heritage angles. #beer #futures #place

OK, since this thread has blown up a bit, I think it's worth clarifying in a new thread to what extent the 'GenAI is asbestos for the mind' analogy might hold up, and where it breaks down (as even useful analogies always do): 1/n

My heart sinks every time the weekend radio mentions that there is F1 coming up later. It’s boring enough to watch, never mind as a radio experience.
