OMG this mariachi band doing the national anthem is amazing and an incredibly subversive political statement that I did not expect to come from… Chicago Bears management?

Sorry (not sorry), but frankly, I can't stand that song. Ever since I started paying attention to the words during the Vietnam war when I realized that more respect and care was given to the physical flag than to human life and dignity at home and around the world.

Agree. It is a violent, war-based fight song. I have always preferred “America the Beautiful”, which praises our natural geography and emphasizes brotherhood.

As a Bears fan, I am beyond proud! I will also cheer on Buffalo for their playing our national anthem. Seeing MAGA completely meltdown after this makes me smile.

Rarely have I seen a mariachi outfit with a harp but I did see one before at the Houston livestock show and rodeo, I happened to be there on the day the Mariachi competitors were performing around the park. I mostly heard those awesome trumpets in this performance

👼 Wow, me gusta that trumpet! That's the first time in a while I've heard the national anthem performed IN TUNE in a stadium. 😈 I hope somebody somewhere got video of all the Fox News geezers losing their damn minds about the sombreros, too.

They get that it’s good PR to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, without needing it explained. Diversity is not one of the Bears or the McCaskey problems. This wasn’t an ICE or Trump statement by them though.

Human decency still emerges spontaneously in the most unexpected places. "They" know it is a fool's errand to try to suppress it. "They" don't have enough fingers to plug all the leaks.

Really love my City. Bears FO understood the assignment. Too bad they don't understand the fans, since they're still trying to find a way to land the Indiana site. 😐

You hope it’s a statement in support. Could be a statement of the bottom line. Either way the message is the same.

What power or influence, let alone focus on who performs a national anthem, do you think Pritzker has to affect Bears management in decisions like this? Give credit to team President, those he’s hired, and ownership who hired him. All them deserve criticism plenty; give credit where credit is due.

They played the USA national anthem One day polka dancers will sing if Another time Italians Another time Israelis Another time Germans It’s so many foreign cultures live in the USA one day they will sung in Chinese All good

While I didn't see it because I work at the stadium and my post didn't offer me a direct view of the field, the Texans had folklórico dancers on the field performing at halftime at the last home game.

I assume that the owners are aware of the demographics of their fan base and understand who is watching their games.

You have that wrong. The Bears want to build on the Arlington Heights land they own, they want to know what the property tax is going to be. Indiana wants to give them everything. If it was such a good deal, the Bears would have taken it. Its still leverage. So, get your facts straight.

It’s in between. The Bears want a lower tax rate in AH, and want the taxpayers to fund a lot of the infrastructure needed in the area around the site to get fans to the AH site. But agreed that on paper, the Indiana deal is incredible from a financial outlook in a vacuum.

The issue of Native American assimilation has vexed more intelligent men & women than me since the two cultures first met. Understanding might be gained by learning about the history surrounding the attempts at melding the two cutures: www.historytoday.com/archive/feat...

The McCaskeys are part and parcel to the oligarchy problem in this nation. However they want our Illinois legislature to tax the residents of our State for a new domed stadium. We have thus far refused! This is them trying to appeal to us.

Bears management is looking for some positive feedback in light of them potentially moving team out of state (because taxpayers won’t fund building a new stadium). Great move for the anthem, just remember these billionaires are ALWAYS looking at PR & profits.

I loved it but wondered how someone like Stephan Miller was responding to it. Hispanics were in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas before 1598 and exploring even earlier.

Thanks for posting. This is the only one I’ve been able to play & hear. The others I’ve seen posted just appear to be endlessly buffering. I was beginning to think it was some fuckery not letting the video play.

Apparently you’ve never seen the end of “Mars Attacks!” Mariachi doing the national anthem in the 90s. Get with the times, people!

Give Chicago more credit, please—the “monsters of the midway” honored the victims of last year’s ICE “midway blitz” in a pretty awesome way! And don’t forget the halftime “journey through Latinidad” show. So proud of my city (even though the Bears are about to move outta town)

If there's any justice & a Democrat gets elected next time, there'll be mariachi bands, hip hop groups, & Native American drummers performing in the Ballroom. Oh, okay, a Bluegrass group too.

It was great, they did a very good job with it too! The MAGA reaction was priceless; apparently the national anthem can only be played certain ways, according to MAGA.

Soldier Field “management” is the Chicago Park District, and would have as much effect on choosing the national anthem performer as you. This is Bears front office people choosing this. Neither Arlington Heights nor Hammond are exurbs. But yes, McCaskey family are mostly d!ckheads.

Bears’ expressions were at first either “locked in’ or quizzical. Then most relaxed, enjoyed the moment and the high notes! 😎 Kudos To Bears management in the. it’s of Broad Shoulders.
