BREAKING: The Supreme Court ruled public schools must allow opt-outs from any lesson parents believe will interfere with their child's religious development, including LGBTQ-themed materials. This will make it difficult for public schools to teach lessons that may trigger religious objections.

What if parents think that a novel or geography lesson endangers their precious - and apparently SUPER fragile - religious beliefs? Will we sacrifice education at the altar of Baal? And with it the separation of church and state? How stupid do they want the citizens of the US to be?

Put those children whose awful parents opt out into a big concrete room with small windows and aluminum foil blankets, no toilet, food or water, while normal children learn about the real world and life.

It is part of the KKKristofascists' plan to create a get-out-of-the-law-free card for KKKristofascists. Next they'll be giving the thumbs-up to people complaining that they're child should not be subjected to the lessons about the evils of slavery etc. because of the Curse of Ham.

But this is what the denizens of the #PariahStatesofAmerica voted for along with cheaper eggs on Nov. 5th 2024 because they're too violent, greedy, selfish, ignorant & stupid to do anything right

In other words extremist members of SCOTUS have just eliminated Science, History, lit classes from credit requirements for high school diplomas. G.E.D takers will opt out of history, science/lit portion of exam. Colleges will no longer have a humanities requirement. MAGA has no humanity

I think more realistically it means schools will have the financial burden of providing alternative instruction if the states don’t alter graduation requirements. And GED is a paid service, is not public school, & administered through a private company so is unlikely to change. In states that alter

Requirements rather than providing alternative instruction, GED might become a more reliable option than the diploma. (BTW with the current GED, most HS graduates with diplomas would not pass the math.) it’s still unfortunate because GED doesn’t judge critical thinking very well, but.

Seems simple. Those kids should then attend private schools that align with their religions. There is also FREEDOM of religion which means that all kids of all religions and background deserve education regardless of those qualms.

but they have no functional definition of what is and is not religious!! how does this not immediately result in the anarchy of a million people asking exceptions to the law because they “have a strong feeling”??

So progressive religious folks should be able to opt out of any lesson that dispariages lgbtq and other marginalized people right? Or opt out of Florida's ridiculous pro slavery history courses thay say that black people benefited from slavery? Or does religious freedom only apply to the right wing?

AMERICA has 6 'us sup ct justices' who are 💩'ing on the US CONSTITUTION based on their RACISM, BIGOTRY, WHITE SUPREMACIST HATE-FILLED, fake 'christian' VIEWS & w/ 1 ENABLER. WE FULLY SEE how they ARROGANTLY MOCK w/ VILE DISTAIN the US JUDICIAL system! 💪RIGHT BACK AT YOU 👉 PURE NAZI MAGA goons

Just let them opt out and keep teaching. If little Kayden can’t learn about Mia’s two dads, then he can sit at home and not pass third grade. It didn’t say the curriculum has to change, just that parents can opt out. Opt away, haters.

Well, then, the religious zealots should try homeschooling. Or a private Christian school. Again, I am sick and tired of these assholes shoving their beliefs down my throat, telling us what is and isn't appropriate on subjects they know absolutely nothing about, but think they do.

I'm honestly curious whether opting out of a given lesson or lessons means that a student cannot be tested on that material. If I give a lesson on evolution, for example, and a student's parents have their child opt out ... am I forbidden from testing on the material the student opted out of?

Or you have parents opt out of the majority of lessons and their child fails every year 🤷🏻‍♀️ if you don’t like what the school teaches go to one that aligns with your beliefs. It shouldn’t be on teachers to cater to the whims of everyone within a public school setting.

If children need to be protected from seeing any sort of "LGBTQ-themed materials" it will soon follow that they need to be protected from seeing any sort of LGBTQ person, presented in any normal or positive way. This is the law in Russia. This, I fear, is where they want to do in America.

Why is my teacher reading me a story about how gay people can be loving happy parents when my mom tells me those people are all wicked and going to hell? This is too confusing. Save me SCOTUS!!!

School is for teaching me things that I already agree with, for validating my world view, my prejudices, my fears ... telling me that I'm right about it and I don't need to listen to anyone else.

I agree with others here. Separation of church and state is fundamental. If these bigots don't like something, let them take their kids out for the lesson. That's what Sunday school and cathism are for. Other kids have the right to learn and shouldn't be deprived because of ignorant jerks

I've had students who objected to the Pledge of Allegiance & students who objected to birthday celebrations I didn't question it The student who objected to the pledge sat with their back to the flag The student who objected to B-days, sat in the hall reading with a para

Yep. Then inch toward slavery again. Thanks to crypto one can buy and maintain slaves now, already. The Confederacy (60% of all Republican votes) is a criminal monster that when let out of its chains immediately pursues nothing but evil.

Gonna start a church that claims math is the devil's poetry and half the population will join to avoid having their kids take 8th-grade pre-Algebra.

School attendance is already dismal this will be a nightmare for teachers. With that said, the curriculum should not change. Test its limits. Those that opt out should be told to stay home for that day. See how quickly parents choose to opt in to have the childcare.

Time to get creative. Start teaching broader equality, humanity and equal protection under the constitution. Make the kids think about what is and isn’t legal and why. Kids aren’t born hateful and if you give them the right tools, they’ll shove bigotry up their parents’ ass!

did you guys know that the bible describes earth as a disk with a dome over it? yes... flat earthers are fundamentalists and anything which actually teaches the shape of the planet can be objected to based on religious beliefs... this was a very brain dead ruling

Good grief...are they prepared to just toss out all educational standards? Do they understand how many parents have objections to really basic facts that most people take for granted? As someone raised in a homeschool cult, I know how weird this one could get, even aside from LGBTQIA subjects. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Will parents who fear that religious indoctrination will interfere with their child's intellectual development be able to opt-out of those things? Off the top of my head . . . The Pledge of Allegiance.

Playing devil's advocate but couldn't this be used against schools and western religions as well? If there's lessons about western religions, history of the U.S or anything that I find triggering does that mean we can opt out?

They'll be pulling their kids out of science and math. "Arabic numerals, not in my America!" I was raised religious, but when I told my parents that religious school and public school had conflicting information, they told me to prioritize public school. God is fairytale, like Santa.

Chaos is on the horizon. Mormons Quakers Atheists Catholics Protestants Southern Baptist Evangelicals Muslims And others might have different views about what should be thought in schools in regards to religious education. Who is looking after the kids if they’re pulled out?

the opt-out is sending your kid to a parochial school or homeschooling. the opt-out already exists. the supreme court ruling against the separation of church and state is another unsurprising disgrace from this garbage court.

Can children not want to listen to any mention of religion in classes? I want someone to come up with a lawsuit? Or anything about conservative f*cks like Robert Lee or even mention of Christopher Columbus? Shame on the extreme court unethical so call justices.

Great now math is purely optional unless it teaches Pi = 3. It is my deeply held religious belief that there are no such things as silent letters! Oh, and that whole science thing is just stuff the devil planted to lure us away from god.
