The Wired article today about Musk indicated that he was going to use a shutdown to accelerate the firing of hundreds of thousands of federal workers. Wouldn't fighting the CR have just played right into their hands?

Stop with the spite. It helps no one. I'm convinced Sen. Schumer is right that Trump, et al planned to capitalize on a shutdown. The damage could have been permanent. It's up to us as citizens to make the case to our countrymen for an adequately funded and functional government.

Yes but at least we still have the courts operating, and vets and seniors still getting paid SS, workers that are still there working. If the Dems are smart, they'll align, develop a message that EVERYTHING bad is now on Tr*** - and then drive that messaging far and wide.

Like how did he plan to capitalize on it? Did he have any proof of that. Even Nancy Pelosi was furious that he voted yes. Schumer and the rest who voted yes are weak and spineless. What they did was worse than what Trump could have done.

Govt open or closed changes nothing. They do what they want with impunity. At least with the shutdown there was a single BARGAINING CHIP now there is nothing. All is sold out. You have to pick the lesser of two evils. Schumer can't see it

For good or worse, the Democratic members of the senate do not like shutting down governmental operations. 1995 (Clinton) shut down for 21 days (R-held house and senate) 2013 (Obama) shut down for 16 days (House R & and senate D) 2018 (Trump) shut down for 34 days (R- held house & senate)

It was a hard choice but i can see his reasoning. Yes it would have FELT GOOD to shut them down but I can see in the end this is prob best. There are no good options. This is what happens when we lose elections must correct what caused our huge loss.

Adam: curious of your thoughts here - Schumer is concerned the shutdown could last for months while Trump dismantles the government. This could cause widespread uprising among the public, opening the door for declaration of martial law. Is my fear unfounded? Does the military have our back?
