Today we’re launching Bluesky Protocol Services, a new brand and website for the infrastructure Bluesky operates. And Jetstream v2, the best way for developers to use atproto at scale, now with network replay. atproto.com/blog/introdu...

Network replay is a serious debugging primitive for protocol teams. The question I would ask next is how easy it is to replay only the slice where a client, relay, or moderation service went sideways.

Open networks become more valuable when the infrastructure is practical enough for others to build on reliably. Better tooling, replay capabilities and clearer operating options can turn portability from an attractive idea into something organizations can actually use.

Ah, finally! Bluesky has two main products: 1) managing the infrastructure and the customers are developers. 2) running an app, and the customers are individuals, businesses etc who post and like and reply etc. (And maybe other apps like Attie) Nice Bluesky is now clearly communicating this.

Of course, the same company producing both a platform and applications causes other problems. Similarly to how Microsoft has both an operating system, and applications, and the problems that happened there. Developers may be wary to build apps on the infrastructure of somebody who also builds apps.

It's already been happening with feed builders. Is that something Bluesky wants to compete in with Attie etc or look for the community to build? (like Graze). Where is the line where it is safe for app developers?

I'll be looking forward to seeing how Bluesky PBC will manage this. But "Protocol services" as a separate product and brand is a good step forward.

Is bsky.network/docs/jetstre... intended to be used for backfilling the entire network? The docs and bsky.app/profile/did:... imply so, but from what I can tell it limits bandwidth to 2MB/s which feels slow for the task

bsky.networkNetwork Replay with Jetstream | Bluesky Protocol ServicesReplay a slice of the network and continue to live through a single interface.

Do you like fast network replay? How does ~40 million events per second strike you? Replay the whole network in like 10 minutes In the best case scenario, running the jetstream server and the client on your own very powerful machine, this is roughly the peak I've achieved so far

Backfilling the entire network is certainly a use case but not the only one and in fact v2 makes it much easier to only backfill the parts your app is concerned with. Not sure where the 2MB/s limit you're referring to is from, can you point me in the right direction?

It might seem pedantic. but you've just disorientated a lot of people (especially non techs like me) by calling this BLUESKY Protocol Services, especially as its on the atproto page. Could you change it back to AT Protocol Services please. Its hard to wear 2 caps I know.
