Marjorie Taylor Greene says Republicans will take a look at defunding NPR

MTG is gonna go to the Pentagon and take on waste in the military industrial complex after trump gets sworn in? I'll support that. She'll mysteriously fall up the stairs and out a window long before she finds out where the missing billions went and get base mad at the military. Win win.

I didn't read all the comments but: 1% of funding from feds directly, and from other sources of which *some* can be traced back to the feds, about 10%. She's still acting like it's the old days. And, no. MSNBC is not part of NPR.

Of course they don’t want honesty in reporting they want parrots and she is the biggest parrot of them all! She is a lazy politician just wants attention. She wouldn’t know the truth if it fell out the sky landed on her face and started to wiggle!

One of the first things Fascists do is takedown any information or media source that is or they believe runs contrary to their warped view! It won't stop at NPR, every non Maga/Republican outlet will be a target. They will do their worst to ensure there is no longer a free press in the US.

How much has America sent to Israel as well as multiple wars to steal resources? I’m sure if you look at those numbers, it will be clear what the issue is

If the assholes pull funding for one of the few sources of U.S. reporting that isn't commercially funded, I'll be upping my contributions. We have so little news media that isn't mostly about ratings.

This would mostly hurt rural areas where corporate media provides little to no local coverage. The NPR affiliates in Western NC have provided the best coverage of the hurricane disaster, as well as being the best source for crucial information for those living there.

Every time republicans get power and a chance, they have threatened to cut the funding to PBS and NPR. They do not want to be held to account by people they fund or vote to fund.

I don't think it'll have the effect they want. Many small rural areas have only a public radio station. If they go down, they will likely lose access to local news and local notifications.

Funding for NPR comes from dues and fees paid by member stations, underwriting from corporate sponsors, and annual grants from the publicly funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The CPB's annual budget is composed almost entirely of an annual appropriation from Congress plus interest.

My point to all this is that these schmucks cansay they are "going to look at" whatever the fuck they want to on their friendly media outlets to gaslight the rubes. But really.. fuck' em. Even if they were to get something together in the form of a bill to end the CPB appropriation, I doubt

I do, i was a rabid NPR listener for years and right before and after the Suntimes merger they did stuff i wasnt keen on, but I kept listening. Then all of Trumps trials and bs were going and i subscribed to their pods and there was a pervasive creep of bothsiderism/sanewashing that i got tired of

Not that I am at all in agreement with this waste of a congressional salary, but one thing she said is at least partially correct. We have an overinflated defense budget where money does go unaccounted for.

Surprise! When intelligence and facts support left-leaning policy, the politicized landscape aims to get rid of the intelligence and facts. Nevermind that much of it is independently member supported.

Supporting your local station could boost community news; NPR+ backs national programs. If programs are cut, local stations aid regional needs, while NPR ensures broader reach, all things considered. (See what I did?) I'd pick based on what matters most to you: local impact or national coverage.
