Chris Murphy: "In retrospect, you can't defend what the Democratic Party did because we are stuck with a madman, a corrupt president in the Oval Office, and we should've given ourselves a better chance to win."

Exactly!! Funding genocide instead of codifying roe, increasing minimum wage, stopping price gouging, expand Supreme Court!! Because corporate weapons makers are campaign donors, & they're more important than the people! 6 million voters walked away from the party because of that, & Trump won! ....

If the DNC doesn't allow progressives to take control of the party and move America forward, with people who don't take corporate campaign money, and are only beholden to their voters, they will never win another election ever! Moving forward needs to be a massive change for US, to fix everything!!

Every problem our country is in right now is because of the Republicans. It’s all their fault. This list is so damn long. Get that? The Republicans did it. Over and over! Every interview, point the blame back at them. Until it sticks! This is all hyper distraction from the truth.

This so annoying. Are we eating ourselves? No one’s going after the Republicans because they supported some one that is not right on so many levels? Trump should never have been the Republican candidate after Jan. 6, they should have impeached him then and we wouldn’t and shouldn’t be here.

I'm sick of hearing these Democrats throwing us under the bus. You had two years when held all three branches of government and you sat on your thumbs. Sick of decorum, doing the right thing, keeping our head down and working for fuck sake find your balls and start screaming at the top of your lungs

And Biden should have only served 4 years. And we should have had an open primary to actually let the voters determine the Democratic nominee. More time for the voters to get to know the candidates.

It's annoying because Trump's mishandling of Covid led to a much more intense pandemic. The more intense pandemic led to supply chain issues when Covid was finally under control. Supply chain issues led to a steep rise in prices. Inflation led to Trump's victory. The candidate did not matter.

It is not "in retrospect". Biden himself strongly implied, if not out right saying, he was a one term bridge president. He went back on that. AND his frailties were covered up. He was not fit. Dem leaders knew it.

The party as a whole, absolutely. But Chris hasn't given an inch to this administration this term and he's speaking out everywhere. Even though he's been moderate in the past (88-90% on ProgressivePulse), he's one of only 6 with a perfect score this term. He seems to be reading the room.

Imperative Blue states follow suit, so they Wake Up 2 musk's election RIGGING ability👍😡 Fontes wants 2 form “independent organization committed to safeguarding elections”, to fill void left by Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing & Analysis Center. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

I’m done. I was thinking he was giving us new hope. But what he, Newsome, Shapiro, & even David Hogg are saying is doing more to turn off more independents. Sick of the MAGA media & sycophant congress all acting like either Clooney or Trump every other day. Apparently the USA all wants MAGA now.

No. The DNC purposely sabataged the progressive drive for the status quo. Sanders run garnered the highest non-corporate funds ever raised and from the largest number of individual donors. THAT is your sign.

These politicians still don't get it Trump is a criminal at heart it's who he is,he's not and has never been a politician, if he could trade being president for being a Mob boss he would do it right now. You can change the title but you can't change the man.

He is of course correct. I voted for Harris, and was as depressed as anyone when trump won, but there is a truth that he is saying. The Dems lost this race that they should have easily and overwhelmingly won. Denying that truth guarantees you will repeat it.

Trump got a huge assist from the media. They failed to report on his obvious cognitive issues and accepted his lie about not having anything to do with Project 2025. We also need to acknowledge that a significant minority of voters are in a cult of personality.

It’s about time we place the blame for Trump where it truly belongs. The people in this country, both those that voted for him and especially those that stayed home and didn’t vote at all.

Harris was highly qualified and ran a good campaign. Oligarch money, complicit mainstream media, and our country’s abusing racism and misogyny are the reasons we’re here. And a failure to prosecute the lead insurrectionist in a timely manner (with a huge assist from SCOTUS).

Only @77 Million (out of @245 Million Eligible Voters) voted for #Trump. The ISSUE is the @89 Million-Who Didn't Vote! ALL #Democratic Candidates Must Figure Out Why! Reaching so many, "I didn't like X, but I couldn't vote for Y, so I just stayed home", Voters-Will Be The Big Challenge. 🇺🇸 🗽

Biden spoke to the public all the time. Best State of the Union speeches. One bad debate when he was sick and should have postponed? His “crime” is apparently being older. Meanwhile Trump is an actual “older criminal”.

🎯🎯🎯 Also Biden stammers, and he has devised ways of hiding it since he was a young man. Getting older, it’s more difficult to try to hide it, so a lot of his energy was focused on this, i.e. by changing the subject so not having to say a difficult word. This made him seem incoherent at times.

Maybe the Democrats should stop running shitty candidates across all the chambers of Congress and State governments? The person at the very top should be supported—not blamed for the party’s poor performance in several races. This is why people like Trump continue to win. They back their man.

I’ll take misogyny over a authoritarianism any day of the week. Running a woman, again, without primaries was an idiotic move. Joe Biden’s age didn’t sneak up on anyone

You can smell the weak, pathetic, supine pantload of a democratic politician in that quote. Had the Biden years been an abject failure, yes. But they weren’t. Dems were, once again, kneecapped by a corrupt, billionaire media; a media Senator Dipshit is groveling to. The party is a fucking joke.

Biden wasn't perfect - no politician is. But all you have to do is say "but at least he wasn't Trump," and you automatically win the point. At this point, voting for a toad on meth in 2024 would've been an improvement over the deranged thing we ended up getting stuck with.

Seriously stop talking about this man he is no longer president and he is not running in 2028! Why don’t they talk about that orange slob who is destroying the country! The what’s happening right now!!! The Biden topic is not going to fix it!

Crazy, I know! And I really really like Murphy. Why do we always accept their framing instead of fighting back? The people want to see that badly. It’s the one thing that could influence voters to jump in.

What a crock from Senator Murphy. There is no way for him to know if someone other than Kamala Harris would have had a "better chance to win". If he does not intend to impugn Harris, then please be more clear.

Biden promised to be a one term president. His hubris and the bad judgement of those around him very well may have very well cost Dems the election. An open primary could have led to a better outcome. I supported Harris and may have supported her anyway, but therewasn’t a choice for Democratic voters.

election.openelection.open

Boo, Senator Murphy. The only correct answer here is: Kamala Harris ran a great campaign and the USA and the world would be infinitely better off if Kamala Harris was president. Unfortunately Trump won and MAGA is destroying our country. Democrats must find a way to counter right wing propaganda.

That too. Turnout in the 1995 Quebec Referendum was 93.52%. The margin NOT to start down the path to secession was 1.16%, lower that the 1.82% of "invalid" ballots mostly "found" in the predominately "NO" ridings. Had 1 person in 50 not voted, then Canada might not exist today.

Yup, yup. Ok. We’ve got it. Can we stop talking about this now and talk about that madman that is actually in the Oval Office? Can we? Please. Can we use words like lies and fascism and unlawful and cruel? C’mon media, you can do it!!

People in North Korea live in communist dictatorship. They don't have the right to vote. You have that right and taking it for granted. Shows your lack of appreciation and respect. Trump is dismantling everything you sat home rather than lift finger to stop him.

Harris/Walz ran a great campaign, the only "mistake" was Dems inability to stop all the GOP's election tampering. Starlink handled election data? Murphy has been brainwashed into a feckless Dem, he should be drug tested.

I appreciate Murphy saying this. However, think about what he said: “loyalty to this man” in reference to Biden. You don’t owe loyalty to a politician. Your loyalty lies with the American people

This observation is only useful if it suggests a positive alternative path forward for the party. I think Murphy has been one of those plotting that alternative path through rhetoric, but needs to be careful not to get mired in this backward looking MSM dialogue.

McConnell was not Senate Majority Leader until 2015. Justice Scalia died in February 2016. McConnell refused to replace him because of the election that was months later. Then he rammed through Amy Coney Barrett with Ginsburg having died less than two months before the 2020 election. 🤬

I believe Harris was the best candidate but not giving her the opportunity to earn the nomination put her in a bad position. The appearance of a coverup made the Democratic Party look bad.

Because they all thought they would lose. The time was too short and Biden polls were under water. There were democrats that already accepted defeat before the election and were only worried about saving the house. In retrospect it was the smart move for the challengers to sit that election out.

It's super important to spend as much time focusing on this as possible so that if someone events a time machine real soon we could leap into action. It could happen, right? The more time we send mulling this shit over now the better. It's the single most practical thing I can think of to do.

In retrospect, @chrismurphyct.bsky.social you can't defend what the Democratic Party did because they defended a madman, a corrupt Prime Minister in Israel conducting an ethnic cleansing, and we should have given ourselves a better chance to win and protect human lives. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Chris Murphy: "In retrospect, you can't defend what the Democratic Party did because we are stuck with a madman, a corrupt president in the Oval Office, and we should've given ourselves a better chance to win."

Are we forgetting the Federalist Society enabled people like Musk to seek foreign financiers (US adversaries) to purchase the most influential media outlets which then spread relentless, unending lies & misinformation during election year? Wake up America & Democrats! You’re being drowned out!!

Despite all the self flagellation the democrats are doing, this what's really doing it. The inbreds who consistently vote against their own self interests do so because they're bombarded by propaganda, sure, but also lack the curiosity to spend 5 minutes looking through the noise.

Will NEVER understand it!! Done with middle ground. Those I know personally (albeit approaching zero due to evolving zero tolerance) are smart enough to know better ... there's clearly an element of racism, misogyny, or complete, utter selfishness (fuck-you-ism) toward others (or all of above).

Oh for fuck's sake Chris Murphy. Stop second-guessing the past. Start figuring out what the Democratic Party is GOING TO DO going forward to deal with the corrupt madman that IS in the Oval Office. All the Woulda-coulda-shoulda rehashing of the past is NOT going to fix a damned thing.

Not really. Twenty people looking back on the history of the 2024 presidential race will come to twenty different conclusions about what went wrong and what "they" coulda/woulda/shoulda done differently. And every single one of the twenty will be ADAMANT that they are correct. 🙄 I'm sick of it.

In retrospect you can't defend a party that has allowed a 24x7x365 propaganda network to so thoroughly define the national discourse that a serially bankrupt, criminal, reality TV star that attacked the Capitol could turn a dozen trans athletes into the main issue of the election.

Like shitting on democrats? Line David Hogg breaking rules then being mad he was told no? Why do all you nonsensical fools use cartoons as your profile? Because you’re all a joke

Why are some people over protective of Biden? Maybe because I feel very strongly about this issue but I think any candidate willing to run for president has to accept it was a screw up by the party and own it.

Why is this the focus of the discourse and not the GOP Congress' insane budget bill, Trump's dementia and megalomania, his plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza, etc?

Agreed, the timing is horrible and it gives the Trump people a distraction because they are bleeding. My take is we don’t control how the media chases shinny objects and they are desperate to do both sides. It’s better to deal with this now than during a presidential election.

I'd like to hear more mea culpas from these mediocre white guys for not getting out and campaigning harder for the hyper-qualified Black woman Biden chose as his best possible successor. But their feefees got hurt when she picked a white guy who could communicate to regular people.

Gonna go to my urn pissed that #complicitmedia continue to sell the lie that Trump won a mandate when Kamala Harris came so close to beating his corrupt white ass. And she did it with barely any time to get a campaign up and running.

I think she had a great campaign, then the Biden core on her staff gained influence and they backed off on the aggressive attacks because they thought they had already won it...

In retrospect, there’s no defending what the Democratic Party did—or didn’t do. They let January 6 and four years of Trump’s corruption slide. They failed to restructure the Supreme Court, failed to expel insurrectionists from Congress, and failed to clamp down on misinformation.

They impeached him TWICE! You need 60 Senators to change Supreme Court! They can’t expel duly elected officials unless they committed a crime…and we need 218 House members and 60 Senators to bring back the Fairness doctrine to mitigate misinformation…stop blaming Dems blame VOTERS!!!

Then came two years of Biden and the Democrats holding all the cards. How many inquiries into the $2B Kushner deal, Trump’s self-dealing, or the D.C. hotel grift? Zero. How many MAGA insurrectionists were flagged for expulsion under the 14th Amendment? Zero.

Biden and Dems held the cards for the first two yrs in which there was an ongoing pandemic and supply line crisis to dig out of plus the J6 hearings! They passed the most significant legislation since LBJ also during that time…then voters gave GQP the House and everything stopped! Stop blaming Dems!

The media - who is leading this attack on Pres Biden when our govt is being dismantled - while never putting the same focus on Trump/Repubs - is huge problem we need to deal with They spent years saying the same thing, not covering Dems (or Biden's/Harris) successes Identify the problem

8-2 pro-Trump press coverage & ignoring Harris as if she weren't even there is what cost us the election, pal. Stop taking the "but Biden..." sucker bait & catch up to the present, where Trump took the best economy we've had all century & turned it to utter shit in a matter of weeks.

This is my sentiment exactly I can’t stand the fact that people are Desecrating someone who still not only alive but in a better physically and mentally fit compared TO THE FELON who right now is sitting IN OUR WHITE HOUSE AND IN OUR OVAL OFFICE!! PRESIDENT BIDEN

Got us out of COVID quicker THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY, rebuild our economy our country rebuild help create jobs that’s why our UNEMPLOYMENT WAS DOWN !! Yet now after leaving office many people are turning their backs to him , WHY? I’m angry because this is not us WE AREN’T THE REPUGNANT GOP MAGA

They say Biden but who these guys really mean is Harris. I think Biden would have been convinced early on to hand off to Harris but they didn’t want her, didn’t really support her even when Biden did step away. Put the blame where it belongs, the big Dems wanted a straight white guy & screwed us all

It doesn't matter what happened last year unless you're going to admit to and do something about the illegality of the other party's actions. FOCUS on doing something now, what we need and can be doing now! This is the problem with the democratic party; dwelling and philosophizing on the past.

Biden should have appointed an attorney general who took a failed auto-coup seriously instead of the dipshit he did. Biden also should have promptly recognized the mistake he made with Garland and replaced that useless sack of shit after six months of his doing fuck-all.
