I know he needs to do some sucking up and he probably saved us from a war over Greenland, which would have effectively put the US out of NATO, but this is way too much of a suck-up.

I don't know if Rutte thinks his job is to lie about the senile mad king because that is best for NATO. But there is no possible way that a sane person could admire Trump's leadership. Let alone "really admire". That is nuts.

I don't think Rutte admires Trump, no reasonable European does. But he knows that a notorious liar wants to be lied to. And so Rutte buys time until the European NATO countries have upgraded their armies to such an extent that they no longer need the USA.

He is not a "reasonable European" and has never been. All the southern countries of Europe know him and his mates very well. "Austerity" (not for military expenses or for whatever big corporations want), "frugallity" (same).... And always policies against European citizens interest.

Maybe, but this is about NATO interests. No doubt that Jens Stoltenberg was a better NATO Secretary General. But nevertheless, I would have acted similarly in his place and fooled the pathological liar and narcissistic moron in a similar way.

Do you see a "common line" between the European NATO partners and Trumperica? Me not? We have no interest in invading Greenland. We have no interest in waging wars in violation of international law. There are times the gaslighting is so intense I actually find myself stepping back and examining if maybe *I'm* the lunatic. While it's always hard to self-diagnose, I simply do not remember an administration in the past 7 I've been alive for that have glazed the President this hard.

I’m not going to disparage Rutte. He can have a different opinion of Trump than I do but it feels uncomfortable to hear that he admires Trump’s leadership. If he’s trying to stay on the good side for better relations with NATO’s interests in mind, I will not fault him for playing the game.

He’s just kissing Trump‘s ass. And that’s just because he knows that’s what Trump wants. A lot of times the ass kissing is so blatantly just to curry favor, not because they really feel that way, that it’s pretty embarrassing for Trump. I mean, they know how much he is just a child.

It is possible he might be able to do this for 2.5 more years barring a serious crisis, but I think he is going to run out of pavement before then. It only took Trump like 3 months after the sugar high of VZ to get himself into a global debacle. Hope his strat works out.
