Depressing to hear the BBC propagating the non-story started by the Tories about the possibility of power cuts because of renewables A classic fossil fuel lie being given credibility by our public service broadcaster #BBCR4Today

Not every young person has a shortcut to success. Growing up on a council estate, the support around me mattered. That’s why I’m investing in youth clubs across London and opening more doors for young people.

I'd quite like for them to try this and then as a retirement project research everything/everyone whose music they play and then write in to complain EVERY SINGLE TIME they play anything even slightly involving non-British-born musicians or influences. Just to show them how ridiculous this is.

This is why Andy Burnham, if he wants any chance of a 2nd term, needs to hurry up and regulate big tech and properly fund the BBC and Channel 4 to help counter disinformation.

As a British stickler I'm finding all the c- and s-s (to my eyes, incorrect) here in licence/ licensed and practice/ practised really tough going. I know it's US spelling but in the Guardian my mind expects UK spelling. The way I experience what my mind sees as incorrect, hurts to read

Have been saying this all along. Instead of hanging flags, threatening and scaring people, why aren't these 'patriots' helping out in their community? I volunteer in kids' and women's football. What do they do?

Pickwick The Dodo@lesleyhustler.bsky.social

Well said. How many of Tommy Robinson’s Sport’s Direct paramilitary division go and help or worship at the churches they claim they want to protect. It’s much easier to don a balaclava and shout at the RNLI. #HopeNotHate

Absolutely agree with this - I'm excited but let's strengthen any decision by knowing what we're agreeing to. I will never forgive Cameron for his role in Brexit. He abdicated any responsibility for defining our choices and ran away leaving it to idiots like Johnson to compound the mistake.

For years Britain’s argument about Europe has largely been: what’s in it for us? Perhaps we’ve been asking the wrong question, writes Anna Damski. What could Britain bring to Europe – and what could we achieve together that we can’t achieve alone?

BJ lies and lies and lies. How he has the brass neck to bring this up when he so clearly didn't manage the situation when he had the chance... And I will never forgive him for how little he did over covid. These tossers need to step back out of public life with some humility. But no, more grift..

Liar. Small boat crossings peaked under Johnson in 2022 reaching 46,000 in 2022. In current year they are 18,565 and falling. Also prior to Boris Johnson's Brexit there were none.

This is so important. Unaware or don't care? Palantir already has its claws firmly dug into the UK. Thanks to successive naive - or perhaps actively colluding?- UK Gov depts and leadership

THE NERVE@thenerve.news

Good morning @tomwatsonofficial.bsky.social Your journey from MP who most understood the Cambridge Analytica scandal to paid-up Palantir apologist is really quite the journey. Hope the pay packet is worth it. 💰 Here’s some background reading ahead of your first day 🧵👇

I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

This is the crux of it 👇

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

... mutually exclsusive? There is a name for being genuinely worried that foreign, dark-skinned people are dangerous. In fact, all phobias are genuinely felt. It's part of the challenge. But "genuine" does not equal "legitimate". And it just does not seem a great strategy for a state broadcaster...

Bonnie Greer was never anybody but herself. So unique. So indomitable. So unaffected by the crowd. A lover of complexities and no easy answers. We were emailing in recent weeks about Jason Arday – she had much to say which she wasn't able to in the end. A mentor who lifted us up. We will miss you.

I'm not surprised but I'm truly disgusted that this narrative of "dangerous fighting age men posing a threat to women and children" is genuinely doing the rounds on the media with almost no push back at all. This is 1930s level stuff.

Trump's pick to head the U.S. Forest Service, Tom Schulz is the first Forest Service chief in history appointed without any prior work experience inside the agency. His experience? He was an executive and lobbyist for the lumber and timber industry: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026.... 🌎

I'm very much hoping to hear ALL MPs in coastal areas with RNLI members as constituents make a huge deal of this appalling thuggish behaviour and call for these terrorists to be proscribed & arrested. Intimidating lifesaving volunteers for a 'Royal' organisation - could they be any LESS patriotic?

Louis 〓〓@louishenwood.bsky.social

Over on X, the far-right British Patriots have launched a hate campaign against the RNLI They are recording RNLI volunteers in order to dox them, reveal their identities and publish details of where they and their families live These men are dangerous

Come on, time to stop this self-harm. We're beholden to rogue states because we're desperate for trade but we won't just talk about terms for coming back to the EU. I don't care about red lines. I care about caving to Trump & creeps like Thiel for a poxy tiny % of trade. So damaging for our economy

Best for Britain@bestforbritain.org

Red tape. High costs. Lost opportunities. Brexit stopped many British artists from touring in the EU. That has real-life consequences - for individual artists and the UK creative industry as a whole. It's time to talk about EU membership.

@monkemma.bsky.social putting in the hard fact-checking graft lazy click-baiters can't be arsed to do, again. Only this time it would have made all the difference to a poor young man and his family if they had taken the time to do a little research and not gone after him. Thank you Emma, RIP Jason.

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

Nigel Farage who was literally given a £5 million gift by a crypto billionaire wants to end "something for nothing" Britain

Ghislaine Hull@ghizzybear.bsky.social

“Reform will end ‘something for nothing’ Britain.” - Nigel Farage. He receives £98,599 a year as an MP, yet for more than three months this year he didn't cast a single parliamentary vote or make a single written contribution or speech in Parliament either. But yes, let’s shout at poor people

WHY drop this??? Just do it! Jobs, environmental benefit, what is the problem with this???

Mike Galsworthy@mikegalsworthy.bsky.social

As Britain swelters through another heatwave, few people will have heard that ministers have quietly dropped plans for solar carports. Cars cooler in summer. Shelter from the rain in winter. Clean electricity all year round. A missed opportunity?

RefUK, RW media, & Eurofash are plainly trying to whip up a panic about this. Any serious report must begin by explaining that Ceuta is in Africa - not mainland Spain - and 48k+ of the 50k crossers were already returned. It is frightening how many still don't know this. Please share on all socials.

This is awful and just such an unforced error and so petty. The department made the mistake, they just need to suck it up and regularise the person's situation.
