That Astrum People site is bizarre, the copy definitely written by ChatGPT, it claims it gives exclusive interviews and biographies with famous people and then all the photos are AI - presumably so they don't have to pay for images Worrying that it's managed to get near top results for the images

Yet again science-fiction has let us down. AI in books and films is either utterly benign and all-knowing, or malevolent and cunning and evil. I can't think of an example in fiction where they have AI, but it's simply unusably shit and unhelpful.

They do at least open, even if they are infuriatingly chirpy. Or the AI just doesn't work if it's in a strop. Trying to think of an example where humanity has developed an AI that gives simply unreliable answers and yet is touted as brilliant. As always we are in the most stupid timeline imaginable

agreeing with this statement so hard I've already handed in a Sci-Fi PhD project proposal targetting basically exactly this ☝️ fictional AI and real AI are incredibly different and needs to be handled separately but people are constantly using lessons learned from one to deal with the other

I'm always reminded of how no sci-fi ever predicted how the Internet would actually be. An unregulated decentralised mass of individual websites and some private search engines. Real tech usually ends up so different to how we imagine it will be for mundane reasons we never consider.

one of my favourite quotes to illustrate how much our perception of robots/AI has subtly changed is from The Ship Who Sang (1969), a story about a ship run by an embedded human brain instead of an AI, a system used because, well... I had to fully pause reading the first time to absorb.
