This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

“The perception that promises can subsequently be revisited by a political establishment removed from the realities of working communities has left lasting scars”, writes Labour MP @melanieonnmp.bsky.social 🗣️ EU free movement debate risks undermining voter trust www.politics.co.uk/2026/10/mela...

And here's me thinking our dog-walking Whatsapp group gets a bit out of hand...

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

At one point he had a Whatsapp group with 10 million people in it, coordinating action. Which I didn't even think whatsapp was infrastructurally designed to support. And yes, whatsapp is of course a meta network, but the strategy was to be everywhere, to act redundantly, to be unbannable.

why the f is Tice on #r4today talking about a “Reform budget”? do the Green/LibDems get the same platform?

Finding some of the reaction on here to the 'stockpiling' stuff a bit odd. The Russians successfully firebombed the last prime minister's house! There was a cyberattack on a French supermarket a few weeks ago!

Largely because if you see how much bottled water you'd stock for a family - 4 litres per person per day - if supplies were cut off entirely, the advice would be ignored. Better to aim for 'three days of no internet connection and intermittent power and water supply' and build from there.

You can’t have someone sat a few foot away from you at a restaurant light up a fag while you’re eating.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

pernicious anaemia and in a way I hope I have so there's a reason for feeling tired all the time... Vit B12 injections don't sound appealing but if it wakes me up and sorts my red blood cells then happy days... So if you think there's something NOT RIGHT go to the docs 👍

"The government needs to focus on today’s problems and not try to go back 10 years. It is not 2016 any more" Trouble is Kemi, many of today's problems are precisely *because* of the Brexit vote in 2016.

(Also notable that she doesn't try to defend Brexit by saying how wonderful and successful it's been, just that people don't want to have the debate all over again).

Happy 4th anniversary to the night in Svalbard when my phone took this unedited photo of a giant lunar halo over the glaciers of Svalbard to which the only response was to fall into hysterical laughter, serially taken up by each shipmate, how else to respond to such outlandish, annihilating beauty

[Traitors spoilers I guess?] I was so happy when they murdered him first because of the fear that he was some sort of analytical mastermind when it's very obvious from seeing him on anything that he knows absolutely fuck all. Absolute mediocrity pretending to be an intellectual journalist.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

A definite sign of ageing is that you cannot impress me with "over 20 years" anymore. Am I expected to think this sauce is ancient, because it's as old as Nelly Furtado's Maneater?

“We’re delighted to confirm our new manager, Chillipe Plement!”

We’re back almost exactly where we were 12 months ago. I think we need to sack the Clement of this season and appoint the Clement of last season to turn it all around. #ncfc

The decline of Newsnight, at a time when we need detailed and decent investigative and foreign reporting more than ever, is so depressing. Marshall is more than an ex singer. He’s Paul Marshall’s son - of GB News, Unherd, Speccie - & is on ARC Forum advisory board

It would hand eg Lowe, assuming he could scrape together 3-5%+ nationally, a tremendous amount of power, potentially.

This what bothers me about the calls for PR to be introduced here as a *bulwark against* Farage or Lowe gaining power.

Fans of proportional representation of the Silver Bullet sort, I encourage you to read up on the current Swedish situation - weeks after a general election, a party in 5th place 7% of vote share continue to lock the largest party, the social democrats, out of government.

On the 45th anniversary of the release of Dare by The Human League, I still reckon "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of" says as much about the meaning of life as any Bob Dylan song.
