This has gone more viral than anything I have ever written or recorded, the "AI has no ROI" story has fully caught on and there's an anxiety in the AI industry that nobody can seem to calm down. Things are going to get interesting in the next few weeks!

Anthropic and OpenAI are dangerous and unsustainable companies that shouldn’t be taken public. The AI bubble is a con and retail investors are the marks. AI doesn’t have ROI, it’s nothing like AWS or Uber, and it’s got no post-bubble recovery story. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbKD...

*while not actually caring if they hold on* Please just hold on for another few days so I can release the DevBlog on my team's deterministic (no-GenAI) specification-driven development tool and code generator. I wanted to have a part in slaying Sam Altman's babbling idiot thieving parrot god.

Also, on the virality: As I put it to a friend, "I've relied on Ed Zitron to keep up on this mess for the last few years so that I don't go insane trying to." I'm overjoyed your efforts have paid out, and that it is now paying out bigger. You deserve it.

I assumed the push for IPO's was their attempt to hand off the bag before the bubble finally popped. That had they done this months ago before the circle jerk invest chart was made public they would have gotten away with it, but now they might not get out in time.

The tech pubs i lurk in keep pointing out that it costs more to do simple "getting started" template code than just hiring a entry level employee and have them do the same task. All these companies are in the "whoops" phase of finding out their consequences for all their layoffs.

The technology just doesn't work. How tf you going to ask for major funding rounds for a thing that doesn't work? These snake oil salesmen told all these investors they'd be able to replace the flesh they employ and it's abundantly clear that future is not happening with LLMs.

I still think a "Where's the ROI?" style campaign in the spirit of Wendy's "Where's the beef?" would be the stake in the heart of these companies. I bet there's at least a few good writers, actors, crew, etc that'd do it just to give them the proverbial finger.

That’s hilarious. Him & his partners are making bank, especially the chip makers - but for the rest of us who might want to buy say a SSD drive someday without selling major organs, not so much.

From your lips to God’s ears. I’ve long shared your same viewpoint; basically around the time the Chinese released their open source version. Your prognostication of “weeks” has me smiling.

Musk is likely going to become a trillionaire with the SpaceX IPO. To conceptualize this amount If Musk started earning $10,000/day how far back would he have to have started to have $1T today? 273,972 years ago. Homo Sapiens had recently emerged and Earth was in the Middle Pleistocene epoch

almost anticlimactic that the thing that probably brings AI down wouldn't be people waking up to it's primary uses of dumbing down society, stealing from artists, causing psychosis, killing the environment but instead having shitty ROI

for some reason i feel like the thumbnail looks like you're at a press conference fielding questions and celebrating some sort of victory. i love it

however, enterprises are paying the increased costs. I’ve never seen anything like it. A few years ago it’d be a big process to get some software approved that cost $10/month. Now everyone is using ai as their search engine at a cost of $1000/month and execs are like please burn more.
