When both "sides" of the coin-of-the-realm are both beholden to the 1%er oligarchs and necrotic stage capitalism is the one-true "god" of the realm....
"My philosophy is that we can just have all the good things without any of the bad things, and anyone who disagrees is intrinsically evil and can be purged"
Oh wow, my brain is expanding from hearing all these new high-level ideas
There's a lot of middle ground between "all the good things and none of the bad things" and "an entire industry that exists just to extract money from sick people and makes it harder for them to get care".
My problem with this comic is that the executive is tied to the tracks in a way that the trolly won’t touch him.
Maybe scare him a little, sure, by gliding over, but leaving him physically unscathed.
Also - the idea of intact public transport infrastructure is extremely far fetched.
Furthermore,
This is a meme, but I’ve legitimately seen so many people saying that he shouldn’t have shot him because “eat healthier and you don’t get sick, it all your fault” it’s like yeah bro, my bad for being born with genetic heart problems, I’ll try better next time.
The plutocrats bought laws making it mandatory for them to do this. It is illegal for them to do the moral thing. Shareholder derivative suits will be brought against the plutocrats for doing the moral thing. So entrenched this has this become, it is now not only legal, but moral to be immoral.
That's not actually true. The laws about fiduciary responsibility aren't anything like that strict where a CEO can be sued for not pursuing every possible avenue of profit.
They chose to be this awful in the pursuit of money, nothing forces them into it. There's no laws mandating their behaviour.
A long time since I practiced but if I recall, K Street saw to it. The prudent man standard is money-focused, and only if the action would result in corporate liability could the action be precluded. Besides, if I was wrong, they'd lose more suits to patient victims and we wouldn't have shooters.
1 mistake is that even if they got growth every year they would still be mad, because capitalism needs to make MORE GROWTH each year. Like, if in 2022 they make 10 bi, 2023 20 bi, 2024 30 bi... they'd still be "dying" because the rate of growth didn't improve, and that doesn't please shareholders
Don't buy heath insurance then.
No one was forcing you to expect under the ACA.
Which was so great that those who wrote it made themselves immune from it.
Almost every month I think about how US Congress gave themselves Cadillac health insurance and left the rest of us to fend for ourselves. Rather than working to make sure the maximum number of Americans had the best healthcare possible. But then I remember more than 1/2 in Congress are the 1%.
Most definitely agree. Wish USA could try government for the people by the people for a change but that’s wishful dreaming.
Those that benefit from the status quo guard against systematic changes likely to achieve democracy and fairness in society.
